choke cable tube, or a substitution

Hey guys I made a thread before asking about how the choke cable should be routed for actual full length pull of the choke rod. I could never get it to travel, instead it just shortened the cable sheath.

I found out a tube on the throttle bracket of my carbs is broke.

which spaces the choke cable and gives it something to pull off of.

Since this part seems to be almost non existent anymore i was wondering if anyone has any tips for holding the cable in a spot where it can get a functional pull of the choke rod?

Do you still have the tube piece? Can it be welded/brazed back onto the bracket?

i am not familiar with these carbs, but this looks like a part that shoves into a hole in the bracket.

It also looks like the part that some bikes use on the gas handle side of the throttle cable.
Or part of the choke cable of the GS500E for example.

Ran a search for just the part number on fleabay, nothing showing up. I'd be inclined to spend some time on there (eBay) searching, little pieces parts are often available. Look for bike wrecking yards that have parts posted for sale and send a message letting them know you're looking for one. You can always post a request in the "parts wanted" section here too, some guys have pretty well stocked junk drawers.

Thank you guys for the suggestions, I'll try to follow through with them but this week i have two college classes scheduled at 6 hours each so this thread might be a slow burn. Here's a picture of the situation. The broken piece was not with the bike when I bought it and when I bought it the choke rod only had about 1/8 inch of travel, now I cant arrange it any way at all.

I saw this on an 82 GS 1100E. It's a little crude, but maybe it'll give you an idea.

Huh that's interesting and it just might be feasible for me. I might need a longer choke cable because it seems Suzuki made the cable just long enough to pull the rod without any slack adjustment. I'll investigate this.

Pull out on that little flat piece in the above pic. Hard to do while holding the clutch lever while cranking. In 1982 Kawa. had CV carbs that had a little plastic knob attached to that choke rod. If still available that Kawa. part (# 16041-1024) should fit the Suzuki carbs. as they were same mfg. & style. The orig. Kawa was 3 pos. & I don't know what held in full or half choke, I once drilled a small hole in that flat piece & installed a little knob with a small screw. Worked, but no way to hold it in full or half position. aggravating but worked.

Temporary fix for ohhhhh about 10 years now. Pull / hold the string, hit the starter button. A properly tuned GS warms up pretty quickly so its not a big deal.

Just my opinion but I'd get a piece of tubing, brake line maybe, and form the noodle and braze it to the bracket. You can braze with a mapp gas cylinder if you don't have anything better.

Please verify the year and model of your bike. The parts fiche you showed said it's for an '82 1100GL. The throttle cable bracket shown in this picture is not correct for an '82.

Yes, my motorcycle is badged as a '82 1100gl.
I'll have to get the vin to get more official than that. When I bought the motorcycle a header and pod filters were installed. Never had to use the choke on my Honda Sabre even when cold but because I'm still in the process of tuning I need to rely on the choke. I used a caliper to confirm it is a 34mm mikuni.

This is what your '82 carbs should look like. Note the curved tube between carbs 2&3. I did not see that in your picture, although I did see what appears to be the spring on the 'choke' shaft between carbs 3&4.

These carbs have a bracket more like what I saw in your picture. They are from an '81 bike. Note the separate brackets for throttle and 'choke' cables.

I think you need a different bracket on your #3 carb. :-k

If you look closely at the bracket in the OP's photo, you can see the end piece of the original curved tube just below the fork of the bracket. What has happened is that the curved tube on the right hand side of the bracket has broken off.

As has been mentioned, it should be easy to braze a piece of tubing bent into a curve onto the bracket again.

Maybe somebody has that bracket for the OP from a scrap set of carbs?
