Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Looking to pick up an OEM airbox to put on my Gs1000 as it has K&N pods on it now. There are a few on ebay for ~$100 but there are 850 airboxes for less than half of that. Any help is appreciated!

Matt

I'll trade you. Pretty sure I've got the 78' setup here some where.

I assume you need both halves, the connector, plus an air filter

I've got a 79 air box complete with K&N insert, only difference from 78 is chromed sides on the manifold box

But, I'll wait for AZR to get back to you first

Only the 78 +79 GS 1000 and maybe the 79 850 airboxes are the same

3rd in line with complete airbox for K&N swap. Have either 78 or chrome available.

I tried looking it up on a cross-reference, but since it is no longer available, it did not show. :(

However, one thing that I can guarantee is that, unless your 1000 is an '80 or '81 1000G, the 850 airbox will NOT fit.
Looking at the question in the thread title, it is apparent that you have a chain-driven 1000, so don't bother looking at any airboxes for shaft-driven bikes.

.

lets see a pic of those k&n's. I have a 78 airbox and also have an extra chrome middle box if that is needed.

Dang that is a nice looking bike. Curious why you want to change back from Pods? Want to trade your jets for the stock jets too?

If you dont want the pods Greg..or for any other reason the deal doesnt pan out...Matt just PM me and I will give you the number to a former member that maybe can hook you up.

Well, I have a dynojet Stage 3 kit incoming that Ill try out before swapping. I just know its almost always easier to get carbs running right with the stock airbox, so i assumed I may be better off running stock. Im going to give the Dynojet kit a whirl and see where Im at with that before I decide definitively. The bike is a great ten footer for now. Those pics make it look nicer than it is but overall Im very pleased. Just picked it up last week.

Ok just PM or call if you decide you want to do the trade. I am in no hurry, and actually have some cheapo pods sitting in wait anyway. Many other projects to do right now anyway.

What do you think about my line of thinking? In case we end up trading, do you mind to post up pics of your airbox with the chrome?

matt

I will try to get out and rummage through the bin today and snap a pic...although if you are wanting to make your bike look stock I believe you need the 78 airbox don't you?

I can say that the 79 gs750 box fits the 79gs850 no mods. If the 850 crosses over to the 1000, then I'd think the 750 would too.

That being said I can't see why the shafty vs chain would make a difference. The apples and oranges may be the differences between the 750/850 vs 1000?

Just thought I'd mention that.

My HUNCH would also be that they are interchangeable as long as the carbs are the same size. For instance, the gs1100 box will fit in a gs1000 frame although the tubes that connect the carbs are different sizes.

Sorry I forgot to snap a pic of the chrome box yesterday...will get er done.

The '79 airbox is the same as '78 except for the addition of the chrome side panels. They are held on with 3 pop rivets that are easily removed and will leave you with 3 tiny holes that are not really visible and can be filled with some black silicon making them virtually invisible.

Sorry I didn't realize the condition of these. I doubt if you will want to swap because the chrome has rust coming through it. but here are the pics of it anyway.
