If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Engine stops pulling at 7k

I had this on my 1000g except at 6k. Turned out to be an ignitor fault.
Dyna S fixed it.
You can use any of the 16v ignitors that have the advance step in them, they are all close enough not to matter....

Dan,

This model bike has a mechanical advance, so the ignitor is a common part with most other GS's. The bikes with the built in advance are the '83+ 750 (like yours), the 1150, and the '82+ 850/1100G.

In that case he could fit a Dyna S couldn't he? Would it fit?

I spent ages chasing this same problem on my 1000G

The ignitor box did fail one of the clymer manual tests when I did finally check it and the Dyna fixed it instantly...

From memory you have to hook it up and use 1.5v batt as a trigger

Joe,

The ignitor part numbers for the '80 750E and '82 1100E are both within the same supercession tree. Are you sure the plugs are different? Doesn't sound right. Basically, all the ignitors are the same other than the later model bikes with the advance curve is built in. Since both your bikes have a mechanical advance the ignitors should interchange.

Please double check and report back.

Ed

Ed here are some pics of both igniters, the plugs are different.

I did find some yuk in the tank cap, which certainly cant be good. I cleaned it all out and put it back on and took it for a ride. I am still having the same problem..

Question...should the cap hiss at all when you remove it? I never noticed it on the 700. When I checked it, it did not.

Also when I rev it in the garage with the cap off, I can redline it without bogging...put the cap back on and went for another ride and same thing bogs at 6-7k?????

Ride it with the cap off (obviously not with a full tank!)... - no it should not hiss. That would suggest the breather is blocked.

That is the same connector on my '82 1100EZ ignitor. A four wire connector to the wiring harness and a 2 wire to the pickup plate.
my part# 32900-45411
That other conector looks like for the gauges maybe the gear indicator?

Can you shoot me a pic of the harness, both my new and old harness do not support this type. The top photo is from my 1100ez.

Now I am really confused...

The are the two plugs on my 1100EZ ignitor, Which has the same plugs as my '82 750EZ ignitor. The four wire goes to the wiring harness and the two wire goes to the pickup plate.

Here is my new OEM 82 1100ez harness and the stock igniter from the old one, it is nothing like the one on the 80 750E.

Here it is on the old harness...

That black box there is not an ignitor!
It is for the gear indicator on the dash or something.

This is an ignitor and pickup from an '82 1100/750
The ignitor is mounted to the battery box in behind the rear master cylinder.

Gearhead has it right. That plug isn't for the ignitor.

Okaay...call me stupid I thought we were referring to the black igniter box

We are Joe. Only the black box you are referencing is not the ignitor, it looks like the turn signal control box.

Ed, I swapped out the igniter, it ran better, pulled well beyond 6k but did bogg out at about 9k, shift to second and it felt more powerful and did not bogg at all. Than it killed as I slowed down and will not start. I walked it home.

Sounds like fuel starvation. Maybe pop the fuel cap open when it bogs down and see if there is any air sucking sound?

Yes I do get a sucking sound, I had the cap apart could not see anything that looked clogged after I cleaned it.

I have noticied the gas cap from my GS1000E will hiss but only when the bike has been run & sitting in the sun. I take it the gas & fumes are expanding which accounts for this sound.

I agree with Salty Monk, take it for a quick ride with the gas cap half installed or removed. Your Gas Cap is pretty nasty, not sure were the vent is either

I found the vent and a washer that turned to mush and clogged the hole. I am pretty certain I had two things going bad, igniter also, going to try and put it all together and take it for a run tomorrow.
