A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Here are some links to several Facebook Groups. I already see many of you on them but maybe some have not heard or found them yet.

https://www.facebook.com/search/top/?q=suzuki gs owners salvage yard ------- Parts and Sales

https://www.facebook.com/groups/2337918349/ -------- Suzuki GS Owners Group

https://www.facebook.com/groups/823518701010237/ -------- For 850 owners

I didn?t bother joining the last one that calls it?s a purist group.
I am on the Salvage yard and GS owners group.
Also a couple of 1150 groups.

I have heard about them, but one can not find what one can not see. :-k

It will be a LONG time before you see me on Farcebook. :encouragement:

.

I held out for a long time. Searching for an old motorcycle club that held a race my father won a trophy from in 1962 was my reason for joining.

I stuck around and joined a few groups, but generally stay away from the stuff that FB is infamous for.

Thanks for posting these links. I've never been on Facebook though. It is an interesting thing to visit with other enthusiasts. Maybe I'll finally build a wall or whatever it's called, make a profile. Maybe...

I belong to some of them but far prefer the forum format. Facebook feeds you a pile of stuff & you don't really have much idea of whether it's interesting or not (a lot of times not) before you've wasted time getting there....
Plus for me it's not a good store of info because of the "comment" format. Just my 2 cents.

Hater here.

Facebook is far too invasive and pervasive. I so have accounts on FB, but I never log in.

I'm certainly no luddite; quite the opposite. A large slice of what I do for a living is building websites along with online and digital marketing. The more you know about Facebook and how completely omnipresent yet utterly careless and how completely, shamelessly dishonest they are, the less you want anything to do with FB personally.

Last time I logged in was a few years back, when it was the only way I could get in touch with someone I really needed to communicate with. I haven't logged back in since our business was concluded.

If you need me, I'm not hard to find -- I'm the same me under my real name and email in many places online. But all you'll find on Facebook is a shell.

I'm sure the GS groups are lovely, but sorry, not interested if it's on Facebook.

Ditto.

Yahoo groups are worse though. Tough to find stuff.

The weaving loom was once lambasted for taking away jobs from the cottage weavers ...

If anyone is interested in the generation below ours (if we are the 60 plus age range) and doesn't want biking to die out, then I'm afraid Facebook (love it or loathe it) is the only way to go.

Yes, the forum is great for us old farts who learned to type on telex machines and are still using our Nokia 3300s, but if you want to be in contact with 100s of people AND do business with them, you will lose out big time without Facebook.

My UK Suzuki Owners Group on Facebook is rigorously monitored, has over 800 dedicated United Kingdom GS Owners and provides a lifeline for those who buy swap and encourage the continued operation and restoration of these lovely bikes.

I also run my mobile dyno business exclusively on Facebook. Last year it generated over half of my 650 sales of dyno runs and this year it is likely to top that.

https://www.facebook.com/dynabikemobile/

All our events are advertised to the local biker groups, cafes and bike meets and the only way of doing this is with Facebook.

Can't do it without them now.

My other business, Holiday Vacation Rentals, is exclusively sold through AirBnb and Booking.Com. I am completely internet dependent. And Facebook is right there.

I now work for nameless, faceless suits from mostly massive US enterprises but hey, it works, brings in the Dollars and feeds my bike habit.

And I get to ride every bike ever made - well almost!

I'm in the second group but never really do anything there.

Also in 2010 I created a FB group: "Suzuki GS Series Motorcycles" but I never do anything there, either, except refer people to GSR.
My group, by the way, has a picture of the 1100 I bought from ddaniels as the cover photo.

+1 to londonboards for the post

I figured one of the first posts would be Steve telling everyone...again...that you'll never see him on FB, very predictable haha.

A lot of the older guys probably don't do Facebook and honestly a lot of the younger guys won't admit to it. I find it very informational and I direct people back to GSR every chance I get. Glad some of you got some use out of the post.

I am happy to see the post - and I explored the links from Facebook.

My business is nearly impossible to do without being on Facebook, Instagram , Snap-chat, Google Plus, Twitter and whatever else comes along
Real estate and the next wave of buyers push us into the place they interact --
Half of my transactions this past 2 years have been with the under 30 age group -
They do not talk on the phone, they text- they email - they google and social media -
The review and crowd source everything they spend money on -
I personally enjoy interacting with them as it keeps me in touch with the miraculous age we live in.
I can do without them -- but my life is better with social media and instant communications

I am PLUGGED IN
:encouragement:

I heard yesterday that there is a “tech generation gap” growing between generally older FB users and the younger kids using Snapchat, Instagram, etc.

I actually had an Instagram account (linked in my signature)before FB after my 50 something year old cousin convinced me that it’s a cool spot to share pics. I enjoy the fact that it’s all image based and have seen some absolutely wonderful photography, enough so to inspire me. I don’t enjoy every 7th post being an ad, but it’s the nature of these things

I've avoided Facebook for the longest time so I didn't get contacted by all my high school buddies. They started a page and apparently still act like they're teenagers. Surely one can set filters or whatever, just haven't looked into it.

Ha, I avoided it to keep away from certain elements of my extended and not so extended family. So far so good. I regularly delete certain suggested friends items, although only one that I don?t care for has popped up so far.

Oooooh kayyy and now the creepy part.
Went to a store this evening with the wife. I?ve never been there before.. ever.. never even heard of it.

Going thru Instagram earlier, a post (ad) from the store popped up. Coincidence? I doubt it.
