    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Gear indicator backwards?

Hello--

I have a 1986 suzuki gs550es. I recently got the bike and it looks like somebody got into the wiring harness. The first thing I would like to tackle is the gear indicator. The neutral light is correct, but when you put it into '1', '2' lights up, and as you cycle through the gears, it goes down. So basically, instead of 1-N-2-3-4-5-6, its 2-N-1-6-5-4-3. I do have a wiring diagram for the bike, but I'm not sure where the connector is, or where the sensor is for the matter. Where should I start looking? Could it be an issue with the sensor, or could be that someone messed with the wiring at the plug? Any help would be appreciated!
 
I had the same thing happen to my 750ES after the shop replaced the indicator switch (the old one had a broken wire). They must have replaced it with an 1150 one or something because the lights didn't match up (like your problem).

Anyway, the connector was under the tank and I swapped the leads around in the connector until I got it to register correctly. If you take the sprocket cover off you will see the wiring and then follow it up until you find the connector.
 
Look at lower part of engine side, lower than the cyclinders, straight below, towards bottom of engine, ahead of the gear shift lever.

Is round, and includes the netural swtich although the wire for the netural is in a different connector from the 1-2-3-4-5 for some reason.

(I am speaking about the 1100G, which I I dont absolutoly know is same as ES.)
 
Not sure but if I remember correctly, I had this happen on a bike years ago and If I recall correctly you just remove the 2 screws that hold the switch at the transmission and rotate it 180 degrees reinstall and all should be good

That's what I was thinking. Worth a try, anyway.

Assuming it's the same as my 750, this would be my guess too.
