I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Gs550 ez 1982 4-1

You have a 550E and Z is the year code for 1982. So the regular old GS550. Been looking in the parts diagrams, they don't show a 550E for 1882, just a 550M Katana or the 550L. Something isn't right here. Either way the engine is the same as the earlier 550s I believe, the later engine with the siamese carburetors came later. The header would fit the head, maybe need to make a bracket or something for the back of the pipe.

Can you post a picture of your bike so we know what we're talking about?

Are you outside the USA? The US did not get a 1982 GS550 that looked like that.

The paint job says Canada, Europe, or Australia.

So to answer your question, yes, any pipe for the 1978-1982 GS550 will fit your bike. As was already mentioned, the rear bracket might take a bit of fabbing to get a perfect fit.

correct, im from sweden.

Marving, Predator and Motad all do a 4 -1 for your bike (but all in either chrome or stainless and not black -though Marving might do a special order). Motad no longer make theirs but still have some stock I believe. Delkevic don't list one for your bike but they've started making more pipes for older bikes and they might be worth contacting.

Now the exhaust has arrived, And its not a perfect fit.. The dimension of the headerpipes is 1 mm smaller than original. And the biggest problem is that the header doesnt fit, pipes that goes into the cylinders is to long, so the flange is in the air when the exhaust is pushed in max. So i would need to saw the pipes i guess.. Weird that ot doesnt fit..

Don't saw until you post up some good high resolution images of what's going on. Upload photos to photobucket or similar and then link the IMG code in your post so the photos show up in high resolution.

The cylinder head for the 550 didn't change over the years other than the intake port size when they went to CV carbs. There is no reason I can think of that the pipe shouldn't fit to the head.

At a glance, it looks like you still have gaskets in place in nos. 2 & 3. Don't worry that the flange doesn't bolt up flush to the head. What you need is for all four headers to meet the head in unison, and then torque them up. A gap between the flanges and the head isn't an issue, as long as all four headers have met the gaskets, and then sealed.

Agree, the flanges won't butt up against the head. You just tighten the screws until you get some crush on the gaskets and then stop tightening. You should use new crush gaskets of course.

Bummer about busting those header bolts. Most of the time breaking them is avoidable if you take adequate precautions. Oh well, too late now.
