A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

GS650L bent font wheel

Its a 1982 model. Can it be repaired? Any ideas? View attachment 38277

The shop i work at used to fix wheels just like this. They then stopped because it wasnt worth fixing (to them) anymore. You can always try. take it to a shop that that has a wheel table to bang it back out. although, i dont necessarily know how perfect they can get it. If it was me, id spend $42 and get this if its the right size: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SUZUKI-1982...Parts_Accessories&hash=item58beb50276&vxp=mtr

you will probably spend more on labor fixing it IMO.

I bent the front on my 1150 many years ago. For the price of a used replacement, the peace of mind was worth it, which is what I did. Keep in mind though the replacement may need bearings.

Is it the 2.15" wide one? I have one but shipping might be a killer from here to NY.

Repairing cast wheels freaks me out a bit. Ever tried bending a brake or clutch lever back after they get bent? SNAP! Now imagine that chunk of that wheel doing the same and the accompanying sudden deflation of front tire. Nope nope nope.

I'm with others on here. Much better to just pick up a used replacement. Be aware that the wheel spoke pattern changed in 1982.

Replace it.

Here's a hint -- there are skrillions of these wheels around, but most of them are wearing two brake rotors. If you take your wheel off and look under the cap on the right side, you'll see drilled and tapped holes for the second rotor as used on many other models. Suzuki takes the concept of parts bin engineering pretty seriously.

If you want an exact replacement, here's the list of the models that use this exact part number. The 850G/GL and 1100GL will be most common.
1981 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1981 GS450T - FRONT WHEEL (GS450TX
1981 GS450TX - FRONT WHEEL (GS450TX

1981 GS650GL - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1982 GS1100GL - FRONT WHEEL
1982 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1982 GS450T - FRONT WHEEL (GS450TX

1982 GS650G - FRONT WHEEL
1982 GS650GL - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1982 GS750T - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1982 GS850GL - FRONT WHEEL
1983 GS1100GL - FRONT WHEEL
1983 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL
1983 GS650G - FRONT WHEEL
1983 GS650GL - FRONT WHEEL
1983 GS750T - FRONT WHEEL (MODEL Z)
1983 GS850GL - FRONT WHEEL
1985 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL
1986 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL
1987 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL
1988 GS450L - FRONT WHEEL

Wheels from many other GS models would probably also fit, but no guarantees. Probably best to stick with this list.

It CAN be straightened, but the cost would likely exceed the cost of a good used wheel.

I ran my 650L with 650GT wheeels on it for a while as they had good tyres on them from a cheap spares donor bike. For the front it was just a matter of taking the extra disc off, an easy switch. The rear was a bit more of an issue as it is a different size to the L but it ran quite nice with it on as it raised the backend up, increased the ground clearance, and at the time I had very stiff aftermarket shocks on it as well. I now run the stock 650L wheels and OEM shocks, though they are perhaps a bit passed their best, the shocks that it.

I would go for a replacement wheel, not worth the risk even if it could be fixed and probably cheaper to buy a 2nd hand wheel.

I have a 81 GS750 front wheel that I'd be willing to get rid of for cheap. Shoot me an offer shipped from 49649 (Michigan).
