If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello GS lovers!

I recently acquired my first Katana...an 1983 GS1100SD. I'm fortunate to own other bikes including a couple of Wes Cooley GS1000S ('79 & '80), RE5, GT750/550/380, GS750/870, CBX, CB1100F, etc.

Previous owner bought this Kat in 1991 and started restoring it about 10 years ago. Unfortunately due to health issues and other life circumstances, he's not able to finish his planned restoration so I took on the challenge.

The bike came with a good amount of NOS spare parts (hardware, switches, controls, decals) which I have been installing/mounting already.

I'm now dealing with an electrical issue and I'll make a post in the correct sub-forum for that.

Anyway, thanks for letting me in!

Nic

Thank you! - I'm not partial to Suzukis. A Honda was my first real, big boy bike and I will always keep one around...or my current 7 of them.

Hi Nic, welcome to the Forum and thank you for posting the pics of your new ride, a very tidy looking unit. Wow, two spare tanks and that carton on the right looks like it could be a Kat seat carton? I am a Kat fan and looking forward to seeing your work and bringing another Kat back to life.

Cheers.

Thank you! - The carton on the right is actually a brand new, NOS Kat tank (4 tanks total, lol). BTW, the bike did also come with a brand new, NOS seat and strap...among many other new parts.

Wow, great score on the NOS tank and NOS seat along with the other spares. Have you started working on the Kat yet or are you still in shock sorting through the mountain of spares?

Yes, I have started working on the Kat. Front to back checking hardware condition and torque specs and whatnot. My main, annoying, frustrating issue now is the wiring harness. The bike came with 2 harnesses. Old, crispy, chopped and in poor condition original and a brand new harness, in the bag.

Well, the brand new harness appears to be from a Japan seller and I'm not having luck in getting the E-Start button to work. I mean, I have a wiring diagram, bypassed the kickstand switch, bypassed the clutch switch, have tested and even jumped the starter relay and everything works....except when pressing the button on the right switch. BTW, the RH switch, brand new, never used...I pulled from the Suzuki bag...I'm starting to get lost on what's going on! LOL

I would like to help out with your wiring problem however, elect-trickery is not my thing. Wiring and electric gremlins I have to get done by others who know what their doing. Most everything else I am O.K. with but not that invisible sorcery stuff.

All good, I appreciate the offer. I'm happy to update that I have found the issue and now the electrical system and switchgear is in working order. I was the typical case of (1) single wire being not connected and then a ground wire in the wrong spot.
Now I can continue with everything else and get closer to finally ride my Kat!
Cheers!

Hi Nic. GS750/870?
I thought the 750 only went out to 810cc I could be wrong though...
I use to have that Wiseco catalog memorized. Haha
Anyway welcome...
