Honda RR mounting

I'm installing a Honda RR (from a CBR929rr) as a preventative measure while I've got my motor partly disassembled, but it's bigger than the stocker and I'm having trouble mounting it. The bolt pattern is the same as the stock one, but it hits the starter solenoid when it's mounted in the stock location.

I was thinking either of relocating the starter solenoid or making spacers or something.

Any ideas? What have you guys done to mount them?

I just fitted a Honda reg/rec to my GS750. Like you, I found the Honda unit a bit big to fit comfortably in the standard place, clashed with the solenoid and flasher relay. I fitted it on the opposite side, bolted to the battery holder just in front of the rear brake master cylinder. There is no clutter there and it should get more air flow around it too. Made sure the wires from the stator were carried well over the chain guard and cable tied, & that bolt heads were half dome type & don`t catch on the battery. Also put a rubber packing down that side to be safe. Seems to work well.

I had to remove the battery box and bend out part of the bracket where the R/R mounts.

I mounted my Honda regulator on the front downtubes just above the tach drive. That area provides added cooling from wind blowing on it, Ted

I just did the same on a friends GS450 a couple of months back. It looks good plus excellent cooling.

If anyone is looking for a Honda RR kit complete with bolts and new connectors shoot me a PM

Relocated mine to the front downtubes with homemade bracket and rubber cushioning over a year ago on our 83 GS1100E. Good charging ever since.

I have an oil cooler on the downtubes already.

But, I did mount it cleanly with a thin aluminum bracket I made that bolts to one of the original holes and spaces the rr into the right position. Should be fine there.

Finished mounting it.

On the bench: (notice the connectors and ring terminals for direct battery connection)

Im thinking mine (if the battery box stays and everything minus the RR doesnt get tucked up inside my new rear cowl) would mount very easily to the existing position of the seperate R/R unit (whichever it is) on the underside of the battery box. The screw holes look the same distance. This of course is one of the old 750s with the seperate units.

Mine originally had separate RR. The regulator bolt pattern is the same between the new 929 regulator and the stocker. I couldn't mount it in the exact stock holes because of the size of the case. I just folded a 2" by 3" piece of .080 aluminum over to make the bracket.

The reason I went with the 929 regulator over alternative Honda RRs is that it's got a long wire pigtail with decent-gauge wire, and it does not have the sense wire.

Not entirely sure which honda mine came from. Picked up one from Duaneage. Mayhaps he knows what they come off of.

I have just mounted my Honda R/R (thanks Duaneage)
But I added a wee bit of insurance as well

The extra load should not make too much difference and I think the extra cooling will be worth it
Cheers

It's cpu fan off an old pentium 2/3 cant remember which sorry.
Most tower fans and some of the newer cpu fans are too big (deep) and foul the side cover.
