    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am stymied....vacuum leak.

Don't over soak. It damages the throttle shaft seals. Soak for the minimum time necessary to make sure all the passages are open.
 
X2 on that and also about what Nessism​ asked about syncing the carbs. It is so very important. Also, that is the beginning of the era of cold blooded bikes, so don't try to get too low of of an idle out of it. The manual will tell you the proper warm idle speed, I think it's around 1000 rpm. :)
 
Old carburetors of course. Find another carb set and try again?
Changes with warm up so maybe metal expanding around an old seal.
The throttle valve shafts leaking air?
Dipping removes blockage, that's not the problem. You got leakage.
Old air screws? Tiny O rings there dried up? Assembled wrong?

I do an overnight soak on carb bodies then a sonic wash and hot water rinse and blow dry with high pressure air. Valves are set per manual. all O rings replaced.

I might add that I have owned this bike since 2002 and this is the first running problem like this that I have had. Mileage is somewhere around 40,000

I use Berryman's "professional" formula, and soaking just a couple of hours results in sluggish throttle shaft movement because the shaft seals swell up so badly. They usually shrink back down after drying out, but just saying, that Berryman's dip ain't good for the seals.

I use Napa carb dip….haven’t had any trouble with it. The issue started on my way home on a 700 miler, it started off slow and gradually got worse every time I had to stop. Been fighting it ever since.

If you have another carb rack, you could try it on the bike; to test if the problem is the carb rack or other.
I have a similar problem with my GSXR carbs. Just bought another rack to try, (next spring).

Not in my experience. Only gross leaks show up with spraying junk on the carbs.
 
I always spray with the long red thin nozzle, and pin point every spot. If any air is sucking through the carbs, it will rev up. It's not like a British car, which passes by a gas station and revs up, but there's an increase if there;s a leak, it is was not discernible, it wouldn't affect the bike's performance.. :)
 
I recleaned, reringed, and during assembly a thought came to me, that those little hockey pucks under the float bowl just might be leaking.So I replaced those hard little discs with O rings filled with RTV and let set overnight.

I spent most of the day tuning the old girl. I am happy to report that she idles and has a snappy throttle again with no hint of a vac leak.

Now to go for a ride.

Hope it's back like it should be... But will still be wondering what the problem actually was?.

I'm wondering too. I thought he was referring to the donut rubber seals that seal the tapered plug below the gasket surface.

Theses here things? is the RTV fuel safe. If it dissolves your in for misery. Why not buy new ones and replace me in 43 years?
