Well guys n gals, I smased up my freshly re done 1100e and myself last night.
I went out for a beautiful early evening ride in the country, the weather was perfect, I was in a great mood and just out cruising to hit 600 miles on my new rebuild so i could check valves, retorque the head and check my clutch basket which I had not done yet.
I stopped at an old tyme gas station and took a few great GS sunset pictures. Then an old timer comes rolling in on an all original 78' 750, we talked 45 mins or so and I got a couple GS sightings pics, i thought it was great cause a 78' 750 was just on there the other day.
We parted ways and i took off toward home. 3 miles later I came upon a left hand turn in the road. I basically just misjudged the turn, my mind was drifting a bit, and being a new bike to me, my lean was off and my original entry line was bad also. The ems said thats a regular mc crash site.
I was in a mellow mood and just cruising, thankfully speed was low. I was on a 55 mph road but sure I was down to 45 as the turn got near.
I entered the turn, and it got tighter fast, I could not get my lean any deeper in time, so I tried to slow down. Once I got in the gravel, I was done for.
All I can guess is that I hit the guardrail at around 35. It felt like I was tumbling with the bike, but I am not really sure. I opened my eyes, was lying flat on my back, 10 feet from the road and six feet down in the ditch, over the guardrail. I did not lose conciousness.I felt some thing wet all over me, it was just a bottle if water in my jacket side pocket. Not blood.....good. I layed on mt back and flipped up my visor, I looked at my hands , I had a giant thorn stuck in my thumb. I calmly pulled it out and thought...."ouch, this is not supposed to happen". I was in a lot of pain so i reached in my front pants pocket to call 911. My phone was curved like a banana, and crushed. My leg hit the guardrail, and my phone, because there was blue paint on the guardrail, and now my pants right where my front pocket is. So my leg slammed it pretty good.
I flipped my helmet off, breathed for a minute and rolled over and stood up. A car came by, nice guy helped me up to the top of the hill. He got my helmet and helped me take off mt jacket so I could lay my head on it. My right leg hit the guardrail, my left leg and hip were also hurting bad.
i herniated a disk at work in feb. so luckily my back and neck were fine.
I broke my left arm (forearm radius) and the rest is bangs/bruises.
I flew over the rail and dont think my head hit anything. I saw the seat laying in the road, the rest of the bike looked to be intact, but I an sure it is smased to sh*t. I did not really get a look at it. I just layed there till ems came. I got banged around good.
I crashed at 7 30 and was in er till 2 am. I am surprizingly mellow about the whole thing. I had full coverage on the bike so that will help recoup my losses or help with repair. It also uncluded 5,000$ injury coverage so that will take the bite out of the ambulance/er.
Everything is still sinking in, I am recovering on moms couch as I need a phone and some help for a few days because I am really sore. Holiday weekend, so they will tow the bike to my house on tuesday. Insurance adjuster will have already looked it over.
Thats my crash story. I am sure the sadness of smashing my bike will set in. I was proud of my rebuild. Like those dummies snickering at the fellas bike in the "i was never embarassed until today" thread......everyone can suck it, I think my bike is kick ass!....and will be again, or I will get another, I really love the GS line.

At least your not banged up too badly, bikes are replaceable.

About 7 or 8 years ago a guy in a black VW Jetta swerved into my lane as I was going past him. He was stopped behind a car making a left turn and was on his phone. This is a 2 lanes each way 4 lane road ( 11 mile in Royal Oak MI ). Anyways i swerved right but still buried the front tire into the rear right wheel well. The next day i went over to my buddies house ( i had called and he came to the accident site and rode the bike to his house ) and wrenched on it as I crawled around it on the floor. 2 days later i rode it to physical therapy. When i came in with my helmet in my hand they asked if i was the guy that was in the cycle wreck. I said yup and the bike is in the parking lot right now. They all looked at each other kinda weird and then started working on the swollen knee.

Terrible news indeed. :(
The pain from the injuries won't hurt for a short while but they will kick in later!
Make certain to get checked out by your Doctor.

Eric

Sorry to hear you bike is mangled but glad that you are still with us to tell the tale. It sure does suck to miss out on having a new ride on what is supposed to be a beautiful weekend but you'll be up and around for many more and thats the important thing.

Hopefully you have some nice meds to keep the pain at bay.

Get well soon.

I will be going tuesday for a hard cast on my arm. I am sure the next week will be a bear with aches/pains:)
I always thought that if/when I crashed I would hit a deer seeing all the close calls I have already had in my area.
Thanks for the well wishes guys-

Sorry for your misfortune. Hope you aren't in too much pain and will heal up without long term effect. Hopefully the bike can be fixed, but if not it's just a bike and can be replaced.

Take care

Sorry to hear this, loud_et. Hope things progress quickly and back to normal.

Sorry for your pain. Thank you for sharing... a great reminder that we need to stay vigilant... It's so easy to get caught up in the high of the ride; we all need reminders to stay sharp.

I hope you heal quickly and get your bike in shape if possible.

Peace

Wow. Sorry to hear this. Get better soon, and take your time.

Keep your pecker up mate and look on the bright side - it'll be something to bore your grandkids with.

Sorry to hear about your crash. Thankfully you can tell the story. Good thing you had all your gear on. Hope you get better soon and get the bike sorted out.

Bummer man, but it could have been worse. You and the bike will recover.

Thanks gents!
Whoever said the second and third day was worse.......WAS RIGHT:eek:
It was hard gettin out of bed today. The full soreness has set in.
I am gonna pop a few of my meds, shower up and have mom take me, my son, and sister up to the county fair a little later.
Once I get on my feet and walk around, it helps work the soreness out of my legs and hip.
I really do appreciate your encouraging words.

Holy crap...Just read this, man, I hope your alright, call me sometime, and anything I can do to help with the rebuild, let me know, take care of yourself.:(
pm me your # Rich. I will call ya later tonigh. I am gonna be fine.
I have not seen the bike yet, so that will be a nice surprize I have to look forward to:rolleyes:

glad to hear you will be ok, get well and plenty of sleep helps healing.

Glad it wasn't worse, hope you and your bike heal up. terrylee
