A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Identifying 1979 Suzuki GS1000S Wes Cooley Replica

I’m looking at potentially buying a 1979 Wes Cooley replica. Is there a way to identify the authenticity of the produce?

Here is what I got so far:
VIN GS1000-524XXX
Engine GS1000-139XXX
manufacture date: 3/79
original exhaust
instrument cluster with clock, and fuel gauge

The serial number lines up with a 1979 1000S. Engine numbers don't match frame VIN serial numbers for GS bikes.

Post photos, and people will chime in with opinions. Realize, though, the 1979 1000S is very similar to the regular GS1000 of the same year, other than the dash and faring. The 1980 1000S has more unique parts.

Thanks. I was worried about the engine number being so far off.

let me figure out how to post pics so I can get more people to chime in.

One kind'f different thing was a small toggle switch under and inside the right side of the fairing to turn the clock off during storage. Don't remember exactly where it was mounted, doesn't just jump out on you, but easy to see if you just lean down and look under there... Good luck!

lol. No thank you. The one I’m looking at is complete.

however not running and they are asking $6,000.

that’s too steep for a non running motorcycle. I think I’m gonna walk away from this one.

I love to come across small, unexpected details like that on bike. It's more careful of the clock to have a toggle switch, especially for storage. Without a doubt, I'll watch for it the next time. Good luck!

Reminds me of my Sportster. Park it for a week or two and the theft alarm drains the battery.

Yes 1980's was a one yr. thing, "79's" were same as "79" GS1000 "N" and "EN" ...That picture is the 1980.

The hole in my memory starts an hour before the accident and ends 24 hours after.

Faustino, If you’re not a bot, please make a new thread / introductory post in the GS Owners forum to tell us about your bike and yourself. A vague, non sequitur reply to an old post is not a great start.

Also, I believe that line was plagiarized from a post I made (talking about my crack up on the Sportster).

Word for word, so in a way I'm honored, but...:victorious:

Seems like a bot to me.

Rob, I thought the same, even searched the forum for it. I thought you wrote that after your accident, but I could not locate the post. Yeah, definitely a bot. I’ll report it
