Melber rim tire sizes

Hey all this question is about a pair of rims I want to put on my 78 1000C. I lucked out and managed to pick up some Melber rims the other week. Not a lot of info on them but they seem to be the European version of the popular Lesters of the USA, not exactly sure what they are made of but they're definitely lighter than the set of stock mags I have from an 1000E. Anyways, there' no real size markings on the rims other that 18" on the rear. I measured the front and it's a 19" x 2.15. The rear rim also measured 2.15, I was hoping to put a set of Avon roadriders on them but alas the biggest tire they make for the rear is a 4.00 x 19, which from my understanding is a 110/90 (someone correct me if I'm wrong). The stock rims for the 1000C were a 19 and 18 spoke, for the 1000E a 19 and 17 mag. I'm 'guessing' these rims will work well on my bike as they are the same size as the stock spoked rims but am unsure of what size tires to put on. I want something with good grip and high speeds and wear hence the Avons. I did ride all last season with an Avon 120/90 18 on my rear spoked rim and had no problems, even though I know it's only rated to go as low as 2.50 for rim size and the spoked rim was 2.15. Any input on all of this is appreciated as the more I look into all the tire options the more confused I seem to get...

The front spoke wheel is a 1.85 x 19, and came with a 3.25 tire (as I have on the blue bike)

So, with a 2.50 front rim you should be able to go to the 100/90-19 Avon

Check their chart as it shows recommended rim sizes

On the rear 2.50 x 18 (? you didn't say), a 120 is still about the biggest you can go

Thanks Todd, the rear tire is an 18" rim but measured across it's 2.15 not 2.50. The front tire which is a 19" rim also measure 2.15. Strange that they are the same width. I've never measured rims before but it doesn't look like rocket science and I measure all my other rims (that I already know their sizes) to verify I was doing it in the right spot and I was. Putting the Avon 100/90 19 on the front isn't a problem it's putting a tire on the rear that is. According to Avon the 4.00/90 18 (which converts to 110/90 18) is the only one that will fit the 2.15 rear. I'm just wondering if I would be pushing my luck putting the 120/90 on there..I checked out the Shinko 230's but they're not even close to being narrow enough for the back rim.

Looked into the Bridgestone's BT-45V's from a recommendation and it turns out both their front 100/90 19 and their rear 120/90 18 will fit a 2.15 rim....bingo!
