    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am having to test a stator.
Testing between 2 of the yellow stator wires in turn and running revs to 5000k to check if the stator voltage readings in AC at setting 200.

If the result is under 50v I am informed the unit is faulty.
It shows 0.5 at 200 setting as per pic and n all wires.

I simply don't know what 0.5 means in units ?

Is 0.5v as is ? Or is it measured in other units ?
Help ?

If it is 0.5 in reality my new stator I bought is faulty and explains everything !!!!!!!!!

You don't want to test between the wires for voltage, only to see if there's a short (no resistance) It looks to me what you're seeing is a voltage difference between two windings which you would expect to be pretty close in a functional stator.

Put the red probe on one of the stator wires and the other on a GOOD KNOWN GROUND such as directly on the battery negative terminal. Make sure the selector on the meter is set to read volts A/C, THIS is what you're measuring. Be sure to do it on all three stator wires and report back.

Can someone tell me what 0.5 means on my multimeter ? That is the question!

As for.the analysis you need I'd read my other thread !!! I have done that and it checks ok !!!! My stator checks ok bar this one test !!!! As described above by a reputable company !!!!

This is.ourely asking what does 0.5 mean ?
0.5 / 5 / 50 / 500 ? What unit is it ?

If it is 0.5 I have found the issue and this new stator (a cheap one) is faulty and I can get it replaced

This is the test !!!!
Below ,50v AC stator no good !!!!!

This is the only test that fails from all the others that have been ok !!!

The bike won't charge so surely it's this.
Question is what is 0.5 at AC setting on my multimeter

You had the right range selected and the proper connections made, so if the meter is ok (stick it in the mains to test it, but be careful), your stator is highly suspect.
Mains test - select the 600V AC range and put the probes into a switched socket outlet. Flick the switch on and observe the meter.
Now you know the 600V range is working, re-test the stator on the 600V range. It will still give a good enough reading to be of use.
 
I can't be trusted to go near the mains.
If i can find thick rubber gloves ..... I may try it but seriously it is clear I am the worst at electrics and can't be trusted with the mains .....

I have to assume the reading 0.5v means 0.5 volts on the 200 AC setting. Not 5, not 50 not 500 or 0.05v 0.005v. I just don't understand the units.
I am not really asking the meaning of this simply what the hell the units are ,?

I have asked m&p for a replacement due to this test result. It is a clear fail. Although other bench tests pass on this new one and class it as ok.

I must have been unlucky and my cheap reg is a faulty one . (I recall my Stihl strimmer failed. Couod not fix it for over a year using cheap Chinese eBay carb parts. The second I bought genuine Stihl carb - burst into life )

I usually do what said on here but I know I will kill myself if I go near the mains ......
 
Put you meter on continuity with the audible beep on. Check your leads to each other to ensure they are good. And maybe put a fresh battery in that meter.
 
Thank you !! My stator (a new one I ordered and fitted ) is thus dead - thanks.

I am now back to.my stator thread that has every way to test a stator anyone desires if they read.

I now realise bench testing most certainly is not a sure way of confirming one is working. It points to it working only .

Anyway cheers - replacement ordered to swap out
