DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

It's coming along nicely.

BTW - You are making me feel bad for not getting my gs running properly. THANKS A LOT! ;)

Thanks guys!
Here in the States tomorrow is a Holiday so I have the next 4 days off. Hopefully will get it finished up by Sunday night.

Wow, very nice. I really like the engine paint job with the silver and black. How do you get it so clean that the paint sticks? Did you remove any of the major components like the head or cylinder prior to painting?

Sci85

Thanks for the props Sci85,.actually spent A LOT of time degreasing / scrubbing, using a wire brush and scotchbrite on the engine. Last step was a bath with rubbing alcohol and a blow gun to get it all prepped for paint.
No I did not pull the head or cylinders. First I shot the black then masked it off at the parting lines and shot the silver.

Now that I have my exhaust bolts tapped I'm definitely going to focus on cleaning my engine so it'll look like yours lol.

Monday update:
Didn't get nearly as far as I wanted to on the seat this extended weekend. Life got in the way with the Holiday family time and putting up decorations for the next big ta-do.
I was able to get a newspaper pattern made, then cutting and marking of the two pieces of Vinyl.

Lined up my marks and pinned them together.

Then while the wifey was at work yesterday, I got the Honey-do list completed and had my chance. I then spent TOO long trying to find our new storage spot for the sewing machine. When I did it was still loaded with the ulpholstery thread that had used about 2 years ago... I was also reminded that my 22 year old daughter (youngest) hasn't a clue how to use a sewing machine and has absolutely no desire to learn. :-#
Anyhow, this is the completed cover, maybe tonight I can start the install.

Do you also hem and let pants out? :p

Just pullin' ya' leg there... hahahha

Looks good, can't wait to see it on!

Thanks guys! and sorry Pete, I ain't gettin close to another blokes inseam ;)

Ok, tonight's progress is to wrap the cover around the seat and glue it on the underside. This is the scarey part, because if it's not in the right place from the start it will be off location for the rest of the install. I located it in the front corners of the flat portion and worked my way back to the middle. So now it's clamped and setting till tomorrow to cure, then I can pull forward and back to hopefully get it smooth.

nice work. upholstery is something i know nothing about.
Hah... me either. A pro would probably tell you I am doing it all wrong, but this is the 3rd seat I've done this way and the first 2 worked out. :p

Dead straight on the inseam comment! Hahhahaha

It's interesting to see how you do this because I know your GL one worked out well, and I'm guessing you did the CB cover also.

Yea, the only difference in the CB's seat was the pan I hand bent out of Aluminum. but other than that, the process is identical

:D With two pieces of oak, two door hinges, a broom stick cut in half, I C-clamped it and "Braked" it over the edge of my work bench... then "rolled" the rear Hump over a coffee can. Spent a couple lunch hours at the TIG welder here at work trying to get those two pieces joined together...

Wow ok... you have patience! I probably would've thrown it at something... haha

When I bent the rod for the frame of my tail piece, I ended up putting a strip of steel around the end of a round cardboard tube that came from a broken cat scratching pole and screwed it to the bench. Worked ok for what I needed.

For one of those things I'm not revealing yet, I've used a sauce pan lid, the front of a pedestal fan, and a roll of electrical tape.

Isn't it great how everyday objects can be so handy? :D

Ha-ha... yea. If necessity is the mother of invention then seems poverty is the father of resourceful ;)
Ok, due to a freak snow storm here Tuesday night / Wednesday morning we have been without electricity here until today (Thursday). Wifey and I packed a bag and stayed in a hotel. Back home tonight, once the house was warmed back up I was able to go to step 2 on the cover.

Glued the next sections front and rear and clamped. I move both directions to keep things taught in the center. I had stretched it pretty tight in the first step so the seam was a little lower on the sides than I originally planned but that's compressing the foam and giving it a nice curved look.

That wrinkle in the front should smooth out when I make my last pull on the top of the front edge.
