A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello All!
Finally decided to introduce myself. I've been poking around for a bit gathering information. Just have to say, this is my 7th motorcycle and the wealth of information on this guy (as well as being the oldest I've owned) is amazing! Thanks to all of you and this forum.

Little back history:
I'm 30, live in the Bay Area, always loved to tinker with things.
Bikes I've owed are:

1) 1997 Yamaha FZR600
2) 2003 Suzuki GSXR750
3) 1998 Kawasaki ZX6R
4) 1984 Honda Magna 750
5) 2005 Kawasaki 636
6) 1980 Yamaha XS850
7) 1978 Suzuki GS750
8) PENDING - 2017 Yamaha FZ09

The GS I picked up from a friend who never rode it, and I actually found it on Craigslist for him. Decided to take it off his hands as I was having riding anxiety and see what I could do with her.
The bike is rough, def needs work. I'll start a build thread a little later but wanted to ask a quick question to make sure I source the correct parts.

I need to make sure the exact model I have. On parts websites I keep seeing GS750, GS750E, C, ect. I presume the vin can break it down to exactly what I have.
Few notes:
Spoked wheels, one rotor in the front...

Thanks!

Welcome to the site. Nice bike. From what I can see, it looks like it all should just buff out. Lots of potential there. Good luck and enjoy it all with updated pics as to what you are doing with it.

We all love pics.

Welcome James,

I'm partial to 750s...I had a 2000 GSX-R750 and see that you had an '03...NICE!

Bike needs some cleaning; that salt water has affected her looks but it can be "Buffed-Out".

Once you cross-reference your Frame/Engine number from that site Mr Brendan provided, you can figure out what model you got.

Spokes are cool; those don't look like original bars...and don't get me started on those mirrors! lol

Enjoy this retro 70s bike and do post your "Build Thread" soon...we love pics around here.

I've got the same bike in the "GS750EC" model. Actually two of them. Mine has mag wheels and dual front discs. Mine looked a little better that yours when I started but....now I'm into a complete restoration on it. Started in December and hope to have a rolling chassis by the weekend. It takes time and money.....but well worth it to save a true classic! Good luck with it! Keep us posted. Lots of very helpful folks on here with a wealth of info.

Oh yeah, not the correct bars or mirrors like Ed said. might not be the original pinstripes either.

Thanks everyone! I grabbed the engine number: GS750-70973 and frame number: 43603. Can't seem to find it on that list, not sure I'm looking at it correctly. I have a couple questions but I think I should post those over in the build log.

Yes the bike sat outside in the San Francisco fog :-/ The mirrors were taken off the second I parked at home, along with a ton of other things. I plan on replacing the bars as well.

Build Thread is here: http://www.thegsresources.com/_foru...1-1978-GS750-Brat-Build&p=2388817#post2388817

Cheers!
