A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi everyone,

I'm out in Western MA in the States. I'm a brand-new rider, and I just picked up a 1982 GS650G as my first bike. I'm enjoying the hell out of it! A 650 is a little bit bigger than I thought I'd get as a brand-new rider, but it's not unmanageable. (It's a MUCH better fit than the 125 Eliminator I took the MSF course on!) I got it with just under 4k miles on the clock. The carbs were cleaned by the last owner and are in good shape; I have no idea what the status of the electrical system is, but so far everything works after throwing in a new battery. I'm looking forward to using the rest of the season to get comfortable on it.

Be sure to check out Bikecliff's website for some excellent tutorials to keep your bike in top shape.

Welcome & congrats. If you'd got a 250 or 450 you probably would have been wanting a bigger bike within 6 months. That GS650 is plenty big & you may never think about anything bigger. I've not owned a 650G but always thought they were very nice bikes. If you plan on a lot of "hot rodding" a chain drive could have been a little more in line but, only my opinion, just riding the shaft is way better. Under 4K ??? that's great...Like he said, we love pictures.

Very nice, clean looking bike. Welcome to the forum.

The pic I saw of it was linked to imgur in the OP's first line.

Welcome to the madhouse! :) Nessism has a newbie's tips thread you should probably have a look at. Even though yours sounds like it's in rude health it'll give you some things to watch out for. :)

Welcome. I keep links to all of the above mentions in my signature, including the best way to get your Imgur pictures to show as nice pictures on the forum, instead of a link.

Welcome

Sorry, I missed the picture the first time. Quite nice looking & orig. Carbs been done, all electrics working, hoping not rude health at all. At 4K valves should be OK, but do check them anyway just because of 39 yrs. 4k mi. won't ware out tires, be sure yours are not the orig tires...Thinking you did good.
