A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

No voltage from stator?

I've been through the ubiquitous "charging issues" with my 450T before. Last time a Honda R/R got me all fixed up. Now its not charging again, but when I check the output from the stator I don't get any voltage. Does this mean that the stator is cooked? It doesn't seem to be shorted to the engine case as there is no continuity between any of the leads and either the frame or the case. Is no voltage what you would expect from a bad stator? I guess its time to pull the cover off and take a look. Am I correct in remembering that these run in an oil bath and that I need to drain the block before I pull the side cover? Any advice is appreciated.

Don't ask me how I know this but...I suggest that you make sure you are testing the stator leads and not the other end of the wiring harness going to it.

No AC current from your staor does indeed mean it is cooked but it is an unlikely status for your stator. Normally it works poorly before not at all.

I have tested the wrong wires more times than I like to admit and on one occassion bought a stator due to my error.

'only suggestion would be to make sure you have your meter set to read AC Volts, probably 100v scale to start with.

LOL...we all do things like that from time to time....I'm almost positive I tested the white/red,gree,blue coming from the stator and not the yellow ones going into the R/R, but looking back who know's.

I'm the senior scientist at a biotech company, and often am the last line of technican support for a frustrated customer. You learn to ask very carefully "Did you use the correct, this, right that", some people don't handle it very well, but most readily admit "Boy that was stupid of me!"

Here's hoping I had the leads on the wrong wire!

On an aftermarket stator the wires coming from the stator are all yellow, and the one in the wiring harness are varied.

Good Luck

Also, it's very important to have the meter on AC, not DC. Even with a really messed-up stator, you should get some small sign of life, not zero. Having the meter on DC is the only explanation I can think of if you're hooked up to the correct wires.

You might want to stick the meter leads into an outlet (set the range correctly first) to verify it's reading AC correctly. I prefer a digital meter for this reading.

Need a stator rewound? *grins* Though it is unlikely that all three phases would die like that. Have you done a resistance check across the phases? And have you checked the resistance between each phase and the frame?

I suspect that I was on the wrong wires  I can't run the re-test until at least next week though as the bike is in a few pieces. I have all of next week off though, so I should be able to get to it soon. I have run continuity and it didn't seem to be shorted out, so I don't know... Maybe new New/Old Honda R/R is dead. It worked great for a while though....
