I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Anyone running a Derale QA-1 oil cooler on their GS's just curious of any benefit. I have found a NOS for a great price and wonder if there would be any benefit of running one?

Well, I don't have a Derale, I have a Suzuki (off an 1150). My 1100 didn't come with one, but it was designed with one in mind so it bolted right in.

The difference in oil temp was nothing short of amazing.

Might also make a difference what bike we are discussing, but we don't have a clue. :-\\\

.

hey guys still learning the cutting edge forum settings;), so I have just updated my signature as many has asked me to do. I am building a 1978 GS 1000 currently. As I mentioned I just came across a good deal, I will likely be riding her pretty hard once built. I am a sportbike guy, so trying to get the most out of the handling as I can all things considered and yes I realize it is a tank in comparison. for those that have hooked these up. is it fairly simple install?

Thanks

Not as simple as the 1100/1150 install. The lines are taken off a distribution block which goes behind the cylinders where the oil pressure sensor sits. The hardware is available, someone will come up with a source.
I'd also recommend fitting the 16V 750 oil pump drive gears which raises the speed of the oil pump - and increases delivery. IMO this is necessary when you fit an oil cooler to maintain an adequate circulation rate.

And you don't necessarily have to run the lines around the side of the engine (though it does look cool). Install it upside down and run the lines up and back through the tank tunnel.

Just got a oil cooler from Steeles Cycles motorcycle junkyard here in Denver for $40. Old Lockhart setup. Only issue is the little rubber oring was cracked. I?m in the process of finding one that will work.

Here?s a picture of what it looks like.

...Old Lockhart setup.

That was the name in those days. If your CB750 or KAW 900 had a Lockhart and a Kerker, it was cool.

Any 4-into-1 was called a "Kerker," and any oil cooler was called a "Lockhart." But if you had those actual brands, your bike was top shelf.:cool:

I spent a few months trying to find a oil cooler. People wanted $150+ for the style I got at the junkyard and setups on eBay were priced $4-600. I can live with $40. :)

I got a good-condition 1150 cooler and an unused 1150 filter cover for $150 from Joe Whelan (RIP). The cooler had the lines already attached to it. I didn't want anything besides the GS1150 cooler because it and my 1100EZ were designed for each other. I felt it was proper to put a Suzi cooler on a Suzi bike.

Shortly after the cooler Joe sold me a powder coated front master cylinder cover. It didn't fit, and he said, "Send it back, I'll send you the correct one ASAP." And that's exactly what he did.

He won't be forgotten around here.

do you have a pic of the cooler?

That should be 8V GS750 oil pump drive gears, right ?
I know the 8V gears work, not sure about the 16V.
All the same from 77-82. Just not the third generation 750. I have some of these to sell. $110 per pair shipped to the USA. Overseas contact me for a shipping quote. Dar

Thanks Dar, learning something new here every day :)

There are a large number of older threads on this topic. To find them click "advanced search", then type COOLER in the search field and toggle "titles only" then click search.
Here is the results and one such hit. Bottom line: you don't NEED a cooler but it may be useful if you are 1) racing, 2) ride hard in hot conditions.

These threads are really helpful by the way, just not all of the users know how to search effectively (including me). I used to get all the performance parts from here , but it became a real issue where to find a good oil cooler.

There's no need for an oil cooler in Virginia unless you're on a race track...
