Pic of the week game

Surely you both have the photos on a hard drive somewhere?

I haven't been back to PB since it imploded...Guess I should go back and close my account.

I had an A-ha moment yesterday. The pic I was looking for was on an old card from my old point and shoot digital camera. I popped it into my new camera, found it, and sent it to my phone via Wi-Fi, which saved me from looking thru my ancient laptop computer which is in the basement.... somewhere.
The pic wasn't very good though.

That is why a good DAM is critical if you enjoy photography.
That, and being aggressive about culling, and key-wording, your work.
But to be honest, culling/key wording is something I have been historically bad at.

I still use Lightroom 6 as my DAM...
It is good, and will work for me until I get a newer camera, being an old version.
Thinking about trying Photo Mechanic, which seems to be highly regarded. But $139?

Since it is winter (sort of), and I am on puppy duty most days, I am working on my photo file mess.
Culling through all my photos, deleting ones that are bad/duplicates/not needed, and adding missing key words.
Deleted about 7-800 photos so far, but have thousands to go through yet.
And I've added key words to several hundred, but....but...Still have about 8,000 without any key words at all....

I don't use Photosuckit anymore. But, when I went to download all of the pics I have there, only half would download. That was over a year ago, and I just haven't had the time, and the thought at the same time to figure out why the rest are being held hostage. I MIGHT have them all on an old laptop, or hard drive somewhere. I'll get them eventually, and finally close my account out...

Okay, I had to stretch for this one. I had nothing on the moon theme and I did not want to miss two weeks straight.

The propeller in this shot is from one of 8 planes, O-1 Bird Dogs, that were satchel charged by the NVA in the opening minutes of the Tet offensive shortly after midnight 01/31/1968. They were on the airstrip in Hue city. Some of the shrapnel marks are visible in the pic. I thought it would be a cool thing to have as a souvenir and somehow jumped through the paperwork hoops to have it shipped back. It now sits in a corner of my living room for no reason.

If I had waited to right about now (4:50 Eastern) I would have had much better lighting, but I am not going to wrestle that damn thing back out the yard again.

Here is the type of plane it was on.

You're welcome. I've enjoyed this thing too and look forward to seeing it continue in 2020.

I have wondered what Frank, the administrator, thinks of this thread. Must be a huge amount of data on his server. Hopefully it's not too much of a burden, especially since most of these pics are really just links.

Yes thank you Roger. And with most of the pictures in this thread just links to somewhere else, he probably doesn't have anymore of a load than the rest of the forum gives him. Those pictures are actually housed on other servers with just a pointer to them. The biggest issue Frank will have is the response and load times for the pages since it was to reach out to them to download the picture every time someone clicks on the thread.

Don, your propeller pic reminded me of something....

https://www.lockhaven.com/news/local-news/2018/04/but-not-forgotten/

I hesitated to post as it may appear disrespectful, but I don't think it was the intent...

My father and a group of guys were in a hunting club and they had a cabin and hunted in the Lycoming PA area from the late 60s until recent times. On one trip in the early 70s two guys in the club found a random, rusted, mangled part of a propeller in the woods. There was no other wreckage or context of what it was from and they carried the prop out of the woods. They were unable to find any info on it or its origin and it hung from the cabin porch for years holding untold mystery.

In recent years the crash and crash site were researched and "rediscovered" by a local Scouts group.

With new info on the mystery prop, members of the hunting club dying off, and the future of the club itself in question, the one remaing guy who found the propeller took it home to NJ, concerned of its safety. He had it cleaned up and powdercoated and is now on display with info of its story, the pilot, etc, at an inn near the crash site.

Glen, That’s an amazing story I’ve never heard before. My wife and I talked about hiking the PA Grand Canyon next summer. Maybe we’ll go on a quest for that crash site.

For all the saluting I have seen at Patriot Guard events ("missions") I have been at, I dont have any picture.

I was thinking that "saluting" is more what a person does.

A portion of My salute to my uncle, WWII KIA, are these stickers I got of his unit. I have the stickers on back of helmet, and on flag pole I use at Patriot Guard events.
Thunderbirds, 45th Infantry Division, 179th Regimental Combat Team.

So I quickly posed this:

Other pic/info.....

Would have saluted, not appropriate for me not being a veteran.

I have some of his letters he wrote home to his kid sister (my mother).
I have a history of his unit. After the 45th went across northern Africa, his unit (179RCT) joined them in the invasion of Sicily. And then the invasion of Italy at Salerno. His listed date of death is a couple weeks later.

Is interesting that for the most of my life I kinda considered WWII to be old history. Then one day a few years ago I found myself thinking "I was born only 9 years after my Mom witnessed the burial of her brother, with grandma holding the folded flag." (the flag I have, still folded.)

Yes, Bird Dogs were the planes we flew and reconnaissance was part of our mission.

That included running airstrikes and artillery on the targets after we found them....or they found us. :dancing:

Napes"R"Us

My brothers bike and casket flag. I salute all who served and are serving. He completed 20 good years.

Thanks for doing that Bob, I tried, then saw yours and took my post down. Curious what you did with Norm's pic to make it show up?
