Pic of the week game

Well thanks, but that's Scott's idea (cowboy). Of course if you vote for him but you really mean my WV Triumph Arch, I'll take it. :)

Wow, thanks for setting me straight Kerry. Scott already pointed out a blunder I made in another post. I'll bet he's glad someone else took this one. Lol

Wow! I really like the pictures I'm seeing looks like it's gonna be a hard vote this time.

Thanks for all the well wishes. I'm already doing much better but still out of commission when it comes to riding. I have a follow up with my PCP tomorrow, it should be pretty much a normal visit. I consider myself extremely blessed, I have a very good employer who has taken very good care of me throughout this whole mess, in two months I'll have my 30th anniversary working here and god willing there will be many more ahead.

Heal up there Bud!

I can't remember if this was considered a monument, BUT, it's what I have. This is in Dwight, Illinois, off route 66. As some here can tell this is a pretty old picture, as The Jet hasn't looked like that in almost 8 years...

[h=1]The Windmill in Dwight, IL[/h]The Windmill was built in 1896 as part of the estate of John R. Oughton, one of the founders of the Kelley Institute. Originally called the pumping tower, it was built by the US Wind, Engine & Pump Company of Batavia, Illinois. The well is 840’ deep and contains an 88-barrel cypress tank at the top of the structure. The windmill pumped water for the entire estate.
The Windmill has stood above the skyline of Dwight for over 110 years. It was placed on the “National Register of Historic Places” on September 23, 1980.

Midweek and we've got seven entries... we're low. And this one really should be a monumental contest.

Been by plenty of memorials but no monuments yet. ....
I would think that, yes, not all memorials will be monuments, but many memorials could be monuments.
Will be left to the voting, now, I guess.

Aside from each persons definition of "monumental"; Each person voting will have to decide between voting for the best monument and/or the best picture of a monument(al).

With the theme being "Monumental" it seems like anything of great size or importance would do.
I too have thought of some other ideas of "Monumental".
I have some pictures of monumental events that include a bike, like sons first ride, but the "monumental" part of it is not self evident in the photo.

likely not going to happen for me. Sunday I went for a ride out a dirt road looking for something called the Joyce Kilmer Monument in Bald Eagle State Forest in Central PA. I don't know what it is or even what it looks like. Hit a gate 2.5 miles from the destination. I'll hike there someday but won't get a pic of my bike there. Open House at school for my younger son tonight so.... Can I still vote?

Open house, boy it's been a while since those days. My youngest graduates from college I'm the spring.

By all means, pleas vote whether you posted a pic or not.

Went for a monumental photo expedition this afternoon. Stopped at this Vietnam War memorial that has a monument for each of the four armed services.
A little bit more about it.https://www.thegsresources.com/_for...o-for-a-ride-today-Pics&p=2498471#post2498471

Is no reason to have bike in this photo, well, other than for making it an entry in this game.
Felt I was being a bit disrespectful of bring bike into the memorial, and adjusting the exposure for the reflection but not for getting all the names of the monument.

I choose this monument (Army) because it had the better view/reflection of the helicopter (and had the most names).
Had to lay on ground to get reflection of helicopter in view, then no way to also get more of bike in view. Did get fender & wheel in view, and fairing in reflection.
But I do like the photo.

Got bike back out of there,
and then I went back in and walked around... .... .... looking ... .... .... .... thinking ... ... ... remembering.... .... .... ...

(I was draft age in 1970)

My vote's for Redman. He got just enough of the bike so we know what it is but not so that it blocked or disrespected the monument. He worked hard to get the subject, composition and angle of the helicopter reflection just right. Lots of great entries this week. I tried but failed to get a shot in the game this time around. Honorable mention to Baatfam for his nearly 28 yr. old pic at Mt. Rushmore.

My thoughts exactly.

My vote's for Redman as well, even though he triple-posted the summary post.

By the way, do we have any rule (written or un) about voting for one's own pic?

I am going to vote for Redman, also. Nicely done, Dave! The reflection, the minimal bike...nicely done.

Honorable mention to kerrfunk, love the evening, (morning?), light, and the use of the arch to frame the flag.

No entry from me this week, sorry. I had an old pic, but it was pretty bad.

Voting for kerrfunk. Great shot, nice light, nice angle on the bike.

Nope, no specific rule one way or the other.
And there is precedence in that some folks have.

I thought I was editing (removing comments), but apparently I was replying or somehow reposted.

Fixed it now.
