Pic of the week game

............... I propose we vote for the best picture of the year.
..
Each winner picks their favorite/best winning photo starting December 22nd, and we vote on the 28th, for the overall 2018 winner.
The winner can start us off in January, if we decide to continue.
.......

Good idea.
At first I though you meant we all vote for the best of all the submissions (something like 4 or 5 hundred).
Then I thought you meant we all vote for the best of all the wining photos (49 you say).
THen I read what you said again.
Let see if I understand: Each winner (17, Kerry says) chooses THIER own favorite of THIER WINNERS.

Interesting point: For each week the winner was voted on based on the subject-theme-category of the week (or at least that is how I think it should be), but the Best Of The Year, it seems that we will be voting on just the best picture.

However/whatever/if: I suggest this be done on a separate thread, aside from the weekly, and let the weekly proceed as is, with the weekly winner still start off the next week. (Maybe over Christmas-NewYear have the week be two weeks.)

Dave, I keep a spreadsheet tally of the votes just because that's how I roll.
.............
.....

Ah..... Impressive.

.....
.......
I count 17 different winners this year,
and 24 different people submitting pix.
.....

Thanks.

Correct. Although some only have one, some have more than one win to choose from.

And everyone the ever played gets to vote? only the regulars? only the winners? (personally, I don't like leaving anyone out)

I think you are correct. However, we could have the theme listed with each picture. Some will look it up anyway...

Absolutely a separate thread. And I like the two week, extended play over the holidays.

This week's theme is "High Places/Things". The picture contains several things which could be considerend "High". The mountian in the clouds is Mount Shasta, which is 14,164 feet tall ( or at least it was at one time), the price of gas may be considered pretty high by some and the town of Weed has a sign that is High.

I leave for a 4 day white water rafting trip on the Rouge river in Oregon Sunday afternoon and if I'm lucky I will be able to vote on Friday.........hopefully I don't get hypothermia, eaten by a bear, or drown. Think "dry, warm and High" places for me while I'm gone.

P.S My son is a white water "Raft guide" and thinks this is a great idea :nightmare: to do in October and not July. Have fun with this....Thanks!

Picture of the year is a good idea but I think that; everyone nominates, everyone votes from the pictures submitted in 2018. Winner chooses topic of New Year, same thread as picture of week. Actually, the origional poster of this thread should have the final say so for the direction of this thread........cg

I like it...But elaborate on the "everyone nominates" part for me. I am not clear on how we could do that.

Should we create a new thread to hammer out the details?

Any member of GSR can choose (vote) a picture from the pictures submitted to "Picture of the Week" (2018) and nominate(vote) it for "Picture of the Year". Maybe a seperate thread for discussion might be best as not to distract weekly topic.

Perspective is everything. It's a normal-sized elephant.
Same setup, fifty feet in the other direction  I didn't move the bike between shots.

Okay, Kerr, You faked me out. Somehow I thought your bike was just behind the elephant, and then the elephant was "gigantic".
You clever fellow, you!
And let me guess; also cleverly cropped as to not give anything near the bike to serve as a reference.
Maybe instead of "cleverly" I could say "deceptively".
Ha!

Guilty as charged. Raise a glass :) Unedited:

The only sort of "high" pic that I have will be something like this recent shot.

I got pretty high today... about 9,000 feet above sea level to be more specific. This is on the Northeast side of the Sandia Mountains, looking toward Santa Fe.

OK...Here we are, high over a valley just south of Soldiers Grove, WI in 2013, with my very muddy R1100S.
It was a beautiful morning, great weather, I took several pictures at this spot.

Funny you should mention that, Steve. The balloon fiesta started yesterday but the wind took the balloons North from where I was. Maybe next weekend I can get some pics of them.

We tend to somewhat avoid the area (if we remember to) but it's such a spectacular sight we still go at least one morning out of the 10 day event. I got stuck in the evening event traffic (balloon glow) after taking a careless turn yesterday on the bike. Sitting, waiting, squeeze clutch and half release then squeeze again ... What a traffic mess. Four lanes at a dead stop. I made it to the shoulder and hopped onto the sidewalk (in front of four cops gulp) and turned around. No pedestrians in sight and the police said nothing. The KLX handles like a bicycle compared to the 850. Anyway, after heading back West away from the balloon park I cut back through the north valley and was on my way.

It's funny how the bike's colors sort of blend into the background colors in the last couple of photos. If I had waited another week, the green would be turning to yellow. Bob, your is a great shot!

This pic is from the rugged northeast corner of Lake Superior. Like the "spiritual" theme, what is unseen in it is the intoxicating experience of riding solo, 3 days out, settled comfortably on a perfectly tuned bike on an empty, twisting, rising, falling highway, drinking in the in-the-moment sensations of scenery, cool misty valleys and crisp sunny higher higher elevations. It was about being alive.

This picture was taken during the Ice Burg rally at Sandy's. Not sure where exactly, but I was captivated by the peak behind Suzie Q. I put a little over 2,000 miles on her that trip.
