All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Pic of the week game

Not historic, not any infamy (other than my traffic court appearance for u-turn ticket), but local county courthouse.

My town is blessed  with many beautiful churches. Architecturally speaking, this is one of my favorites.

Voting Baatfam, just imagine the history this little house has seen and been a part of from the time it was just somebody's hopes and dreams to what it is today...

Roger Burque gets points for the place that is most immeadiatly recognized as significant.

Vote for Glen Dorkburger.
I kinda though that might have been the place were transistors were originally developed. And I like the pose and the lights and that it appears that he went and posed bike somewhat for the photo.

Maybe I recognised the place because I had an electronics professor in early 1970s that told about his early carreer at RCA labs in mid-late 1940s (yes, he was that old, and I am now that old).
I may not recall the details specifically but he talked about where he worked on identifying the electrical characteristis of simiconductors, and the effects of placing one up against another (we now call diode). He developed the parameters to identify the electrical characeristic, and determined how to produce those characteristics (amount of doping the simiconductor materail). ANd he said his report proposed having a third layer of simiconductor and he predicted the characteristics.
ANd he told of how the labs cooperated between RCA and Bell Labs, and then things were reorganised, and where his file cabnet went to some other place. I do recall sitting in the lecture, wondering why is he telling us all this.
ANd then he said that a couple years later, guys from that other place got credit for inventing/develpoing the transistor (three layers of simiconductor).
To this day, the parameters to describe the characteristics of diodes and transistor are what he developed.

ANyway.... Anyway, that is probably why I recognise the siginificance of Bell Lab in New Jersey.
And I was somewhat right.

>>Later Note; but the Bell Lab that is credited with transister development is in Murray Hill NJ, not this location.

Saturday. Vote tally time.

my counting:
trev 1, baatfam 1,
s Murdock 1, dorkburger 3,
Burque 2.

someone can verify, but I say
Mr Glen Dorkburger has the repeat honors.

.
Norm, another way to say it, in shorter version, less specific: the professor, along with lecturing us on properties of simiconductors, pretty much said that when he was a young research engineer, studying the properties of simicinductors, he proposed the specifics of what we now call a transistor in his report, but wasn’t in a position to built it, others saw his report, and they got credit for developing transistor.

Hey all, thanks.
Sorry for the delay. I got wrapped up in some weather sensitive house repairs today- 1955 wood framed windows, a severe case of rot that should have been addressed 10 years ago when we moved in, etc. Had to beat the rain. The replacement band aid wood is in and caulked. It started sprinkling as soon as I started painting....

Speaking of weather. Any interesting weather for this week. Wondrous skies, dreadful skies, a perfect day, whatever.

This was a sunset after a summer storm. The Abomination (gas bike) has left the premises. I'll miss it. In true form to that comically awful contraption I had a long fun ride on it a while back. Next time I tried to ride it... another ignition failure.

We've had a pretty rainy weekend so far. Yesterday's ride was jus gray and wet, nothing picturesque about it. Maybe later today I'll find something.
