A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Polaris SH775 Opinions??

Chuck, I agree with Ron. The one you link is not a SH775, regardless of what the add says. Probably not a series. I’d get the one that Ron linked. Though, on closer look, that ad says that it’s using “stock image”. Who knows what you’ll actually get. . Or see if Nessism has any that he’s already tested.

I have the same one that Ron referenced and it is a good one. The one you saw on EBAY does not have enough pictures to tell if it is a genuine SH775.

Yes, it does. And it’s not.

the pic on the left is a SH775, like the one on Ron’s link (though ad says its a “stock image”) other images on that add do show the white SH775 Writing on the top fin, and other users have reported getting legit units from that seller. I think Grimly was one.

the image on the right from Chuck’s link doesn’t even have the posts. No need to look further.

Yep, powersportsnation are a decent seller of these things. They take the trouble to show the markings, as they know customers with a clue want to know that.

There are fakes all over eBay. Stay clear. You can buy two or three of them for the price of that fake that chuck found. Nice strategy that; price them high and then people think they are getting more for their money.

Yes that is a fake and an expensive one at that! I have purchased off powersportsnation they are a good seller

The linked one on the specs, reads
"Interchanges ... Polaris 4012971, Shindengen SH775
So, it might not be a knock-off but maybe a replica of sort.
I would steer clear though, and look for even a 2? hand Polaris SH775.

This is a bad photo, but it should give you the idea. I shaved a couple of fins, and used wires and RTV for the connection, because there isn't enough room for a large connector on the bottom when placing the unit in this location.

Chuck (and others), your biggest clue as to whether this is a good unit is to read the ad carefully. It says it is a NEW unit FOR a Polaris SH775. If it is truly a new Polaris unit, it will be several hundred dollars. And it says it's FOR a Polaris, it does not say that it is BY Polaris. By the same token, the 'gasoline' available at the corner station is FOR a Suzuki GS and is also FOR a Chevrolet Corvette. Just because it works, does not mean that it's the right thing.

Rich also pointed out the difference in the posts on the top. The writing on the last fin would be the clincher, but there are visual clues on just about every surface. The top should have 'posts' in the positions that Rich showed. I have seen a couple of fakes that had posts, but were in the wrong places. The bottom should also be silver metal, not black (metal or plastic). Again, I have seen fakes with silver metal, but they did not have the posts on top. Any ONE of them can not be taken as proof, but when you have several, your confidence can increase.

Here's one for $36 + tax shipped. It's got some corrosion, but that won't affect its function. A stainless steel wire wheel, or bead blasting, can be used to remove corrosion. A light coat of paint wouldn't hurt either.

I mounted the 775 where the ignition is normally mounted and mounted the ignition where the regulator used to go.

I put the one for Richs bike where the igniter was bolted to the battery box. holes line up so there it sets

This weekend I purchased a 2017 SH775 from Ebay wintersrec. They accepted the Make an Offer :). The Shindegen Gold Wing R&R 5 wire I had installed never caused a problem.

As you know, the 79GS1000 came with separate Regulator & Rectifer. Back in 1982, the original set up smoked the wiring harness ground wire insulation and melted the orange/red wires while out for a Sunday ride in Alamogordo, NM. Didn't have a clue what happened then and was lucky to limp back to the USAF Base.

Would I be able to safely run a lithium ion battery on my gs1000 with one of these reg/recs ?
already got a nice anti gravity battery that I just removed from my 1200 scrambler, be a shame not to use it
