Ok, I found what I was looking for. I bought a 1982 GS850G tonight for 900 bucks. Here?s the link with pictures:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0397881540&sspagename=STRK:MEWNX:IT&viewitem=
She looks gorgeous and I talked to the guy on the phone for a long time and he assured me it?s in a tip-top shape. Her name is Jasmine btw. South America here I come.
Now the question:
How do I get rid of that ugly ass fairing and where do I find a stock headlight and turn signals for cheap.
If anyone wants that grandpa saver let me know, it?s free for taking and I?ll buy you a beer too.

Congrats! I got my headlight from here: http://aztec8.com/

Looks ok, clamps to the forks but the clamps are a bit big and touches the tank on full steering unless way down at the triple tree.

Congrats on the new ride! Looks like a really nice bike :) I would almost take that old jammer off you.. not sure if it will actually fit my bike tho...

The jammer fairing supplied here used to use the original headlight.

There should be a pair of light brackets on the front forks between the yokes (tripple tree's) that the indicators come off and the headlight bolts too.

You should be able to source some either in the parts for sale or the wanted adds on this site or via the same site that you bought the bike from.

My 1980 GS850G also came with a Vetter fairing that I suspect was dealer installed when it came off the showroom floor. I'd like to go back to the headlight but it can get pretty pricey. On my bike there are no headlight ears on the fork & no front turn signals, all would have to be purchased.

So far I've been too cheap to do the swap. The fairing is just as ugly as when I bought the bike but it sure is nice in cold and/or wet weather.

Fairing fit 750?

Fairing fit 750?

I may be willing to take that "ugly-a$$" fairing. I THINK the 850G mount will work on my 750T. That could make it my 4-season commuter.

I really hope the brackets are still there. The guy said it was a factory installed Vetter but the headlight looks nothing like the original. I checked the websites you guys mentioned buy jeez, they are pricey. I already found the signals for $15 so that's not bad.
What other year Suzuki shares the same headlight? Or possibly other makes of UJMs?
As I said the Vetter fairing is for grab, anyone who's close (Helena, MT) should stop by and get it. I don't think I can ship that hunk of ugliness. I?d like to get a really small windshield for it though, nothing too big and too flashy. This bike is going to go on a really long road trip and a windshield would be nice.
Where do you guys get your engine guards cheap? $150 sounds pretty high for couple of tubes.

82-up GS850/GS1100G... the (79?)-80-81' buckets have a different number of holes (1) in the back of the bucket than the 82-up (2). the ears are chrome on the 82-up, the (79?)-80-81 are black.
the headlights are the same other than the difference in the number of holes. (add one?)

in addition to the turn signals (square) you will need the fork emblem and "S" decal.

these are 80 parts, but you get the idea.

The last Vetter bike I bought had the stock bucket and hears still on it. I lucked out. The first two did not. I prefer the stock ears to the cheesy aftermarket ones, but the stockers require you to pull the fork tubes and loosen the steering head to install them.

Vetter fairings work really good. There is no such thing as a "factory installed" vetter on a Suzuki. The notion that these fairings were shipped to Japan so that the factory could install them is silly, but often quoted on E Bay.

I think Suzuki offered dealer installed fairings from either Pacifico or Calafia, I'm not sure. Not quite as nice as a Vetter, but still pretty nice (I bought an '80 GS 850 with one)

That looks like a fantastic deal for that bike. I hope its as good of a deal as it looks. Good for you! I just bought a set of front turn signals for that for 1.99 each on E Bay, BTY. I also have a stock 1980 headlight shell I don't need and some stock chrome headlight ears I don't need. They might be off an "L" though. I'm not sure.

NICE BIKE!! :D Take care of it and you will always be able to "stand tall" when next to that machine! ;)

Nice find!!
Mine is a '79 and the 8" headlight fitted right back in when I removed the fairing.
The bucket was still on the bike though, with Vetter supplied rubber cover. I just ordered a couple hardware parts (rings, springs, bolts)(www.cheapcycleparts.com) to complete the assembly, PO had lost them.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info and complimants. I guess i have to wait till i get the bike and see what's missing.
This weather is killing me, snow every day and bad road conditions. I have to get her shipped to montana. since i already paid for the bike in full, i don't wanna leave it there more than i need to.
