If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Just purchased an STATOR for my GS550L 1980 . Has anyone ever purchased a stator from RMSTATOR INC. I just wanna know how good their product is before putting it on my GS . Any comment will really appreciate it.

Thanks

Alex Erik.

You should be fine.

Put rmstator in the search window at the top right of the thread page and read until your eyes pop out. Not really, but there is is alot of threads about it.:)

Hi Mr. alexerik,

Yes, RMStator is OK, whether you buy from their ebay store or company website. I have purchased from them and have been happy with the product and the service.

Thank you for your indulgence,

Just put one on my bike a couple of months ago. Price was right and they claim theirs have a higher output than stock.

I bought one from them as well and all went as planned. As far as longevity of the unit I would hope it lasts a long time.

If I am correct that is an 18 pole stator where the original is 12 pole. This being the case you are to change out the flywheel to get the proper magnets? Have you guys been needing to do this.

Hi,

It doesn't hurt to double check. Please check a parts fiche to verify the 550 part. My 1980 850G has the 18 pole stator and the '79 had the 12 pole stator.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

All of my 550 have been 12 pole.
My understanding is to swap out the 550 flywheel for the 850 flywheel for the 18 pole stator.

Correct. Whether you have a 12 pole or 18 pole part, you need the corresponding number of magnets in the flywheel/rotor to get proper output. Updating from a 12 pole part to an 18 pole part means that you also have to update the flywheel/rotor.

One curiosity I have, my 550 flywheels have 3 magnets. Both 12 & 18 divide well with that. Not having any 850 parts in my hands for a few decades I am not familiar with them. Are they actually 18 magnets?

I thought the 12 pole system used 4 magnets and the 18 pole system uses 6 magnets.

There could well be 3 & 4 magnet wheels than. It would make the 4 magnet flywheels not compatible with the 18 pole stator but the 3 magnet could be.

But BassCliff your RM Stator failed within a year use, right? Although RM Stator replaced it under warranty for free it was still a warranty failure.

I have got a RM Stator installed on mine and I am T/S.

You are correct sir. That's why I mentioned being happy with their service too. :)

You have a very good memory Mr. srsupertrap.
