just an fyi in case anyone else has a leaking shifter seal.
This is what it looks like behind it, which is useful info...no need to drain oil-note that deep recess is actually a pretty good seal on it's own and no oil comes out of a resting bike on centrestand-, and there's some room to maneuver inside the steel shell of the seal(the rubber covers it)
Cautions: avoid scratching shaft...so, if you were going to use the screw trick,(see thread below) drill pilot holes away from it....and keep pry tools awayfrom shaft too.
I found screws were not going to work, but a couple of drilled holes were really useful, to work prying the thing out if and when you can get them started on the slippery steel shell of the seal.
I suppose a "proper" removal tool would go through the old rubber part of seal near the shaft, hook the rim of the steel shell and then pull or otherwise winkle it out, but I carefully used levers in holes and destroyed/winkled it out.

easy to put new one in(I believe it's Suzuki part 09285-12006) a piece of plastic pipe, plenty of oil and cleanliness..tap,tap tap gently to keep seal centred...
