A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Side stand options?

After much swearing I have finally gotten my new custom-made 4-2 exhaust onto my '82 GS1100G. When I got the bike it had a rather dire 4-1 on it and I much prefer the look of a 4-2 on this bike. This exhaust was apparently built on a jig made from an original Suzuki set but maybe it was a slightly different bike.

So the new exhaust looks excellent and hugs the line of the frame beautifully. But now I can't fit the side stand back onto the bike. The centre stand works fine but the left hand pipe is so close to the frame there is no room to refit the side stand where it was. The spring section of the stand gets in the way.

Are there any other options that might fit? I don't care about the side stand switch. I have already removed it. Any ideas guys??

Have you got some pic's? I think I know what you mean but I'm having trouble imagining it...

I'll take some tomorrow. I'm absolutely stuffed after messing around with the exhaust all day. :-) Thanks!

I welded the side stand mount and arm from a '81-'83 GS1100E onto the frame of my '81 GS1000G so that the '83 1100E exhaust would fit.
Perhaps that will work with your bike as well.

Disregard the 850 side cover emblem in that pic.

Wow - way cool 7981GS! I like the JPS colour scheme! Yes I'm sure there is a way around it. Here are some bad pics of the problem. But first a couple of wider pics to show what the pipes actually look like:

Yup, looks like you have the same problem that I had.
I have a GSR member sending me gold tank badges and the tail trim, rear reflector trim and side cover 1000's still needs to be gold,
then it will be complete. ;)

Are they EVER really complete?? :-)

I have looked into the stand you used and I think it will actually end up better than the stock stand. I found one on Ebay for $25 so it should arrive here in a week or two. I have a few other little welding jobs so it can be added to the list. Thanks heaps for the help!

Never!
Goldy has a tiny/slow leak that has yet to leave a single drop of oil on the ground.
But, I already have the cylinder, pistons and gaskets to make it a 1074 (1100) if it needs to be addressed. ;)
