A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi everyone,
I own a 1980 gs 750 and I need to replace the output shaft. Why is a long story. Is been a great bike though. Put a little over 60k miles on it. I have all the new parts. But I cannot for the life of me figure out how to separate the two halves of the crank case. This is my first time getting this first into the engine this deep but I'm a quick study. I have a shop manual and have followed all the directions. Everything that the book says to remove is removed. And all the fasteners it says to remove are out. I can get a gap started all the way around the case except for the area where the sprocket is. I've been over it and over it and I see no more fasteners. I've probably spent ten hours trying to figure out how to do this last part. It's 60 degrees for the first time since fall and I don't have a bike. I've watched every video on the subject I could find and read every article. I'm completely stuck. Help would be greatly appreciated

Did you remove the oil pan, clutch hub, and starter which can block access to different screws holding the cases together? Assuming yes, some careful prying may be in order. I like to use a block of wood under some engine lug tapping upward to get the case halves apart. There is a largish dowel pin in the back of the engine which may be corroded and holding the halves together.

Yes sir I got the bolts that hide in the front under the oil pan, the bearing retainers behind the clutch hub, and the two screws under the starter. I'll give the block of wood a shot. Probably is that dowel you spoke of. Back side is the only side I can't get to seperate.
