Sprocket tooth count and chain

Hey guys, its been awhile since I've been over here. With riding season fast approaching I've had my mind on my GS and what it needs for the season. It failed inspection last year for a few things that I'm looking to order. Problem is I'm currently at school so I can't go to my bike and figure out what I need. I'd like to have the parts before spring break so I can do the work then.

I know I need both front and rear sprockets, along with a chain. I've been searching around and have not found an answer for what the factory tooth count is for these. If anybody knows I would greatly appreciate the answer.

Also another unrelated question that I don't want to start a new thread about. I was dropping an ignition coil under load last season and determined I need a coil. Should I get a used factory replacement coil or get a pair of the new dyna coils I was seeing online? If the dynas, what ohm rating?

The sprocket tooth count and coil ohm rating is in the factory service manual. If you don't have one find basscliff's website and get a free download.

Tooth counts are also usually listed on the parts fiche.

You can use either a stock coil or a Dyna. If you go Dyna, get the green, 3-ohm coils.
Be prepared to get a little "creative" with the mounting.

Ignition coils are very reliable, so suspect connections before you opt for new coil?

Thanks for the help. Using the parts website I determined the sprockets are 14/48 and the chain is 112 links. That website is great. I was on another website and it was missing many of the labeled parts, such as those. I do have a clymer manual but that is also at home. I'll download one from basscliff's site.

as far as the coil goes, I've isolated the problem to the coil but it could absolutely be a bad connection too. I'll have to go over everything before definitively saying it's the coil.

Be careful with parts sites. The one that phydeauxmutt linked to is great for looking up part numbers that have been discontinued and re-issued with a new number and is also good for cross-referencing what other bikes use a particular part, but they are the MOST expensive place to buy anything. Most of the other online parts vendors have prices that are 15-25% less than retail, but Alpha Sports (the one in the link) actually charges 5-10% ABOVE retail.
