DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I'm sure there's a sticky for this but it's been a while since I've been on the forum as I've been building a cx500. I have a 1980 gs750l I did a few years back and since I'll have another bike to ride I'd like to start this build. The motor runs great with less than 8000 miles on it. I've put around 3000 on it. I know the carbs could probably be rebuilt and synced but they actually run great. I put a hotter plug in them and I couldn't be happier with the color. Either way I'd be doing a carb rebuild. I'm probably going to go hard tail. Where should I start with this to make sure everything is in good working order before I build it? Thanks. Also I have been kicking around the idea of doing two carbs with split manifolds. A guy (murray) builds carb setups for CX500's so I'm sure he could handle this.

Form follows function, not the other way around.

You're going to take a lot of flak for the hard tail here. If you're never going to ride it more than a few miles to your local watering hole or cruise night then it will work OK, but it really makes for a pretty useless motorcycle with dangerously poor handling. What could you hope to achieve with the two carb setup? The OEM arrangement works very well and requires nothing but basic maintenance to continue working well for many years.

Agreed with the previous 2 posts. We do however have a member here (Grimly) who built a manifold and converted his bike to a single carb. If I recall he was questioned as well, but made it work. Tinker if you will, but you may find yourself in uncharted waters with potentially not a lot of available help.
My back certainly would not suffer a hardtail. Your results may vary.
Good luck.

yeah the hardtail was a thought. I'm more than likely going to do an inverted fork setup like the cx I built. So aside from all of that is there anything worth doing to the motor besides a valve adjustment. As I said everything runs great as of now. Any must do's when doing a build mechanical wise? Also the fewer carbs the better in my opinion. Less trial and error if you do have a problem.

The oiling on that motor is suspect. I think you shim up a spring in the oil pump

Carbs? Sounds like doing 4x the work to eliminate a non existent problem.

Put a Turbo on and use one big carb... http://www.thegsresources.com/_forum/showthread.php?175705-ATP-Turbo-GS750

Ok I'm going to just use my old thread and see if I get a couple of answers. I'm building out this Suzuki since I"m buying a new motorcycle next week. The way I'm doing the new seat makes it pretty much impossible to put the final air box back in. I can change the design up and make it work but I'd rather not. I'm keeping the carb setup stock with the 4 into 1 mid box. Or whatever the hell that's called but I'd like to do away with the final box that has the filter in it. Could I possibly toss a smaller pod filter on the back of the collector box and achieve similar air flow without having to screw with the carbs? Has anyone ever done this? Thanks.

Yes, that was a fairly common mod back in the day. My 1100E was set up like that when I bought it. You can see the large single K&N under the seat in this old pic:

You will not be able to avoid rejetting, though. This is midway between the OEM airbox and pod filters on the carbs in terms of airflow and the jetting needs to match.

I would think it would jet like using a K&N inbox on the G models.... Kind of "stage 1". Something like 5 up on the main jet, shim the needle a bit & wind the screws out a turn or so. Probably not that big of a deal...
