A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Substitute Stator for my GS1100G

Hi all, Looks like my GS1100G stator has lost its oomph (still need to carry out a couple of checks to be absolutely sure).

I have a spare cover and stator from a GS1100ES (at least I think it is as the covers are much the same except it has an extra bolt hole at the bottom front edge). However I don't know if it is off an ES D or an ES Z.

I have done some part number cross referencing to see if they are compatible and see that although the GS1100 ES model D Sku is different to that of the GS1100G, they appear to both superceed the same part on the XN85. However the ES model Z does not share the same commonality with the GS1100G.

Considering the above, I am assuming that if my spare part is from the GS1100 ES model D, that there is a better than even chance that the stator will fit my GS1100G... but am not sure. I am also unsure if the GS1100 ES model Z stator will fit.

Is there anyone out there with any experience with substitutions that can confirm whether the stator can be swapped?

Thanks

Hi,

According to Electrosport, they sell one part, the same part, to fit all of these bikes. The only difference in the OEM part numbers would be referencing the connectors or rubber grommet that fits in to cover.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

I used to have an 850G. I ended up replacing both the stator and the r/r with Electrex (now Electrosport) units. Never had a problem with it after that. The r/r went south on my current 450, so again replaced it with an Electrex unit, and again, so far, I haven't had any problems with battery charging since then. I'm not sure about the 1100, my 81 850 had big Phillips head screws for the stator cover, I believe the later GS models had regular hex head screws. I replaced the screws on the 850 and the 450 with socket head cap screws (use an Allen or hex wrench). Whatever you do, don't use a screwdriver to pry the cover off. The magnetic force from the stator is significant. It's not a terribly hard job.

Awesome. Thanks everyone. Checking the two different models at the electrosport site shows that they share the same replacement part number "ESG020" so as Basscliff indicated, I may have to swap rubber grommet and connectors. I'll give it a go then.

Gosh it's tempting to order up a new one at $119 (though out of stock.. lol) and a rectifier at $99.

Thanks again

Colin
