    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Super bike bars, sport touring bars, dirt bike bars..

Tried the Daytonas, a Euro touring-style, and a couple of others but
like these Moose Dirt Bike bars the best for comfort and control
(probably won't win any style points though)

^^^ hmmm -note to self-

those Dirt bike bars offer the option of a place to hang a gps or other accessories that otherwise get crammed too near to switches and controls...

They don't look so bad either!!
 
Just commenting so I don't lose this thread and get to see your pictures too. I'm looking to find some suitable lower straighter bars to replace these US spec ones.

Probably going to go for these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/142514153276 but want to check out a few more ideas before I finally hit 'buy now'.
 
These are Answer superbike bars (I think they are the superbike bend). From looking at their website it appears they no longer make these or anything but Pro-Taper bars. These are quite low and I have them rotated rearwards to reduce the reach to the bars a bit. I don't find them at all too low or narrow. I think anything much higher would start to feel like apehanger bars to me. You will have to ignore the cosmetic ugliness, that is a work in progress...

Bikemaster are the one most people refer to as the "standard" for these name bends.

Superbike very much remind me of a standard mountain bike riser bar if that help... Daytona are similar but a couple inches more rise.

Euro is low like superbike (maybe an inch higher) but pullback is quite a bit more.
 
No pics to help out with, but one of the things that happens a lot with "lower rise bars" is the width seems to often suffer hand in hand with lessor height.
Some folks don't mind that...some might. Like Dan said, I have a euro bar for the 850 and will install it one of these days...still stocker right now though, so no pic.
But it was the right height and pull back that I wanted w/o loosing width. You can make a "tweener" via angles bar risers with a lower height bar..if you want that perfect spot.
 
BMW R100RS bars. My favorite tubular sport touring bars. These are 20-30 years old and replaced a set of CA Superbike bars that were on the Cooley when I got it.

I have tried every bar known to man on my various GS's. On my 850, the stocker is far and away the best for me. The 1100e has a more aggressive feet back riding position and I find the Superbike or Renthal High bar best. But I am old and fat and creaky. I loved drag bars on my KZ when I was young. I could never make my G2 Bandit comfortable after 4 bars and 2 different risers, one of which was adjustable. It always put too much weight on the heel of my hands. SO find what works for you. If you want to pay shipping I have a box of 4 chrome bars you can try out, keep the one you like and send the rest back or offer them up to the next guy. 3 are lower like Superbike bars but all different, one is a flat track high and wide bar. Going to try some risers or wedges on my Connie as well. It is good, but not perfect. The 850 is perfect.
 
Hope work out what will suit you. I bit the bullet and ordered these...

(maybe find some nail polish for that scratch on the tank... sorry, can't help myself :rolleyes: and always cover the tank in the shop. berating you helps ME remember:))

Took me a minute to work out what you were on about, there's no scratch on the tank. That's just an unfortunate reflection in that photo. I couldn't cope if I actually had a scratch like that!

Paintwork isn't great but it's not bad either. On the list for 'one day' will be a respray of the tank, side panels and tail piece.
 
Daytona bars with 30mm risers are perfect fit for me. Without the risers I felt like I was stretching a bit too much and sitting too close to the tank. For me, risers required replacement of aftermarket shortened brake line with a new 17 inch line.
