A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

the mockup, opinions?

Ian, I don't think I've ever seen your bike in it's entirety. Looks real nice, more like a "T" than an "L"

Maybe look into a vinyl wrap instead of paint. You can peel that wrap off later if you want to change it up again.

I don't have a problem with the color change but I would suggest some black pinstriping. I think it would make a big difference in impression.

I did something very similar with an 850 over twenty years ago only in yellow. I deliberately omitted any badging or striping for effect. But I still have those parts and if I ever put them back on I will definitely add black striping first. It just sort of finishes the picture.

I love yellow motorcycles....Always wanted to paint my 1100E yellow.

I love blue, and that particular two tone color is my favorite of the GS colors. In the pictures you posted, it looks to be in great shape. I agree with those who say you can always repaint it original colors again if you want, but once you paint the side covers they're ruined in my opinion. I'd leave it how it is if it were mine.

thanks everyone for the opinions and also the ones who like how the bike looks, i dont know if i can bring myself to do it lol, not because i dont think i can but because when i walk towards the bike i just think if it was painted different it wouldnt have the same effect at all, i might try to find a tank in great shape and some fairings as one fairing is sun damaged, another is cracked and has to be ziptied because the mount broke, and the tank is scuffed all over aswell as small dents on the top, if i could find a way to undent it id be alot more satisfied.

i need to get a bike that is cosmetically messed up so i can have something to actually improve, been looking for old plastic bikes lately as most of the ujm bikes i see are either very nice and original or a good project for what i want to do but no title.

I like Cipher's idea, find a tank & side covers, paint them, & you still got the OEM stuff, Win/Win. I'm sure the parts from other size & model GS "L"'s should fit, I just don't know which ones

its just hard to find a good set, honestly when i compare mine to others on ebay mine seem to be around the same condition except for a few, but all of them are still scratched up so id be back at stage 1, i think im just gonna leave it and find another bike to completely redo, i still plan on rebuilding this motor and doing the bore kit.

Sorry to disappoint, but the 650L body panels are rather unique.

Oh, another reason to not ruin the OEM paint.

I'm of the opinion that once you go down that route, you'll never be able to get back to the original paint scheme. Or...yeah maybe paying an insane amount to somebody who's still proficient in that art, dunno

@timebombprod maybe it's already covered in the thread, but where did you get the seat shown in the early mock ups? The tank and bidy panels on my 650L are good, but the seat is ... well ... the seat

sorry havent been on here for more than a quick check for a while, same exact one as mine its a great seat in my opinion havent went back to the oem since, a little bit firmer but no weird arch in the seat like the oem one if you're a taller guy.

Thanks. Not yet sure if I want to drop that much cash. Plus mines an '83, so i'll have to see if there are any subtle diffs between model years.

Go ahead and paint it green, it's your bike, make it your own! Who cares what anyone else thinks, just be sure to paint the words "Snot Blossom" on the tank so people know what they're looking at.

Very nice. Of course, were it a KZ, it's value would triple. And green would be OK.

I wonder how the kz650 would compare to this 650 or I guess the more similar E model, I've just been told that the Suzukis handling is more refined but I haven't ridden both.
