If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I am a newbie and think I put too much gear oil in my 83 650 shafty. And noticed gear oil on my hub, so I drained a bit of oil and noticed there wasn't as much oil on the hub and rim after I took it for a ride but still a little.
Should I take more out till I have no leakage? And will there be some residual oil still in the hub even if I drain some?

If you have the bike on the centerstand, it is pretty hard to put too much in the final drive unit, as it will simply run out the hole you are using to fill it. :o

You can cheat the system a little by rotating the wheel rearward, but having too much oil in there is about as bad as not having enough, so why bother? :-k

.

I filled it to the threads and i took it for a ride. And then checked it and noticed when I removed the fill bolt some oil came out, so I drained some but noticed there was oil on my hub and rim.
But after I drained some and took it for a ride there wasn't as much that is why i'm not sure if there is still some residual oil making the oil marks?

hi. Big Daddy
if i'm reading your post correctly. then you fill the hub until a little drips out then replace your plug.

just a thought but have you checked the primary drive oil supply too? i top up both at the same time cos its the same gear oil in both (EP90 hypoid gear oil)

My 650 only has one place to put gear oil
Mine too! fill to hole edge and ride it- don't get too fixated on it! If bike has sat for a while, pray that seals will swell a bit and outside drips will vanish. Remember 80-90 w gear oil.

I just drained some gear oil out to just below the the threads and took it for a 10 min. ride and seems like all is well.
Just wondering if it's ok to do that or does it have to be right to the thread line?

It is supposed to be filled to the bottom of the threads. Any higher and it leaks out the vent onto the wheel.

Don't worry, if you put too much, it'll just start to leak somewhere...

90% of the time it will stop once the excess oil is out...:)
