Hello i am new to the site and the gs bike ..i would like to know if a 82 gs850 engine will fit and work in a 77 750 frame thanks a lot
stoney

I don't know about the whole motor, but I know the 850 pistons and jugs will bolt to the top of the '77 750 motor.

The 850's a shaftie, the 750's not. Converting is one of those "anything is possible with enough time and money" things.

ok so much for that idea ..thank for the fast response..how about the carbs from the 850 will they work with the 750 motor
stoney

I can pickup a good 850 motor down the street for 125.00 and the carbs for 80.00 .when i bought the bike The 750s motor was in a box .

Don"t know .. he bought it like that as a parts bike and then sold it to me after taking off a few parts . It looks like its all there .

Is the motor "in parts"? How torn down is it? If the cases are still together I wouldn't be too concerned.

I do believe all the 8v motors have the same carburetor spacing...if so, the 850 carbs would fit.

The bottom end is still in the bike ..but the valves are out of the head . Is there a online manual i can refer to when doing the the rebuild ?
stoney

Before you get too far into this project you need to consider two things:

First: Will the bike ever be road legal? People tearing bikes down don't usually have concerns over titles or recovery histories.

Second: What is the bike worth to you?

Basscliff's site has lots of info but for major work like that order the clymers repair manual for your bike. its well worth having around for such things.

I would say put back together what you got, oh and buy real Suzuki OEM gaskets... I am redoing my top end after only 6k miles because I got a cheap gasket kit last summer.

If you want to use the 82 motor with the 82 head you'll need to buy the carbs as well. Your 750 has VM carbs and they won't fit without a lot of work.

Best bet is to buy the motor and swap the cylinders and pistons over then bolt on your 750 head. Depends of course if the cylinders / pistons are in good shape.

I like the look of the 750 motor i am going to put it back together and she runs if she runs and if it does i wil do a proper rebuild thanks for all the help so far this is great ..cheers

I think i will still buy the 82 motor and carbs .. if my first plan fails , will the head off the 82 bolt onto the 77 bottom end ?

Yes the cylinders and pistons and head off the 850 will bolt onto the 750 bottom end and then you can use the 850 carbs as well (as hampshirehog stated).

There is a question as to whether some grinding of the cases is required to accomodate the larger piston sleeves? I will be finding out the answer to this soon as my oil guzzling, plug fouling 750 is gonna be stripped down this week, with 850 cylinders ready to go!

Save yourself the time and agony sell the 750 engine still in the box take the money you were going to spend on the 850 and and buy a 1100 engine:D they bolt right in.

Drop that in your 750 frame and try not to smile to much.

Search 7/11 swap on the forum that should get you started.
