would you keep this (master cylinder)?

I'm thinking of chucking it out.
It's pretty corroded all around and inside.
My thinking is that its a cheap part, easy to replace, safety...

toss it in a can of carb dip for a week .. see how it looks then..

I agree with SSchering, clean it up and then look it over for obvious pitting.

I try to be frugal most of the time. But, especially when it comes to brakes, if "new" fits in my budget then, why not? If it cleans up nice you can always throw it in your spare parts bin. If you don't use it, someone else may be able to.

I would put it on my ex's bike and follow her with a video camera. Hopefully on interesting roads like Brown County.
Not sure if a week is overkill or not, but certainly clean and inspect as suggested.
Two areas on my vehicles I never skimp on: brakes and tires.

Remind me not to get on your bad side Kool-aid! Also I would buy new if you can and clean that up if you feel up to it later and as they said you have a spare, or sell it to off set cost of new one. terrylee.

this one is the spare. I'll spray some stuff on it and let it soak, but I'm not going to give it my all.

I had an "extra" master cylinder laying around and decided to do what I could to restore it, just for the heck of it. Soaked in carb dip for a week then soaked in thinner for a few hours. Some hot soapy water and a fresh coat of engine enamal and it looks as good as new.
Gonna put a new kit in it and use it on the Skunk.
