A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I am planning on swapping a 650 top end on my 550-bottom end, I have been reading a lot of the excellent information on this site, and I am pretty sure I have most of what I need figured out. however, I do have a question regarding the pistons. Do I use the 550 or the 650 connecting rods? also, do I need a thicker head gasket or not, and if so, are there any recommendations. thanks in advance for the help.
Glad you caught me, was just about to go out the door. I'll throw them in the car. :)

You're going to Charlie Fox's Pizzeria

I keep a GS300 for my daughter, who was only 17 when she got her license and is one of the coolest girls I know. Her stock GS and cute look on it get far more compliments than my customized cruiser.
Hi Monk,

Are you still selling your bracket for the GS1000 double pot brake upgrade mod? I've just gotten the rest of the items and wonder if your creation is still available, or what you would suggest to fabricate the piece. Thanks for any help you can give me on this.

I’m bit of a bike nut since 68 currently have 3 Suzukis
first of the gs series bought new GS750B in 76 , 78 GS1000 and 96 1500 intruder
I have a '78 GS750 that's had 29mm smoothbores on the bike since the early 1980's. I purchased the bike in 1985 and have not done any work to them whatsoever and the bike always ran great. The middle of last year it started not running right. After checking a few things, plugs, wires, etc. (all good) I figured it's time to rebuild the carbs. I've rebuilt a couple of CV style Mikunis on a two other (newer) Suzukis and a set of Hatichis on an '80 Yamaha 650. I pulled the smoothbores a couple of weeks ago and would like to get started. However, I want to purchase gaskets and o-rings before I start the disassembly. Do you have any of these as well as possibly needing jets, etc. once I get things apart? Thank you, Mike Graziosi
Originally joined in 2004 and had to create a new account. Same me. Still have my GS...it's a restoration project now.
I am writing to say I am happy this place exists and look forward to exploring its content including looking for a way to donate a few bucks.
I bought my first GS in 1979 or 80. I remember it was a cold ride home on my Silver 1980 GS 1100 e from the dealership in Ma.
I put a lot of miles and burned some major memories into the old melon. One such was “walking” it down a steep set of wooden stairs into the basement of my childhood home where I pulled the motor out and painted it black. As I recall the black fog of paint mist permeating the house I feel a sense of love for my mother that she tolerated this. In all likelihood I ambushed her with a sneak attack though and it was a fait a compli. Not sure how I got it back out.
Eventually rode it from Ma to Wyoming in 83 then to Park City Utah where I sold it to my room mate but not before the best summer I ever had riding in the Tetons and Yellowstone with a blonde gal named Elizabeth who turned out to love riding as a passenger . We had big fun.
2nd GS I bought in 2024. A 1979 GS 1000 e. It was complete but derelict. This bike was ridden hard and put away wet.
I am still making my way through the rehab process. Since then I have seen beautiful 78s come and go on CL and FB that I should have bought as my 79 may cost more in the end and I prefer the 78s in the first place. What ever.
fastfrank,

I'm interested in your GS1100ES and can pick it up at your convenience. I have sent you an email with my phone number. In case you did not get it, my number is 859-310-1408

Ron
