DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Wow, the message function on the forum is screwed up! Your reply never showed up in my inbox. I just happened to look at my sent messages and found it.

Anyway.........Paypal was sent! Thanks a bunch!
Hey 2old, just saw in a post you have a Honda CX500 Turbo. It caught my attention because I think I remember while searching for a trip reset knob for my CB1100F, that the CX500 Turbo, along with 2 Goldwings, uses that same unobtainable reset knob. If that's the case and your reset knob is missing, a guy at Honda CB1100F.net makes a replacement from alum. Looks, fits, and mounts with the same screw. It seems exactly as the plastic OEM one that always fell apart. Just thought it may be interesting.... Rick P.

Sorry for the late reply, just noticed you left me a message. Mine is in good shape but thank you for thinking of me. You never know when a plastic piece 40 years old is gonna go bad.
Will do, send money via paypal to davidb at citiloc dot com

I will get them cut and in the mail in a day or so.

Thanks

David
Hey Rich, If offer still stands, My wife took a picture of one of my bikes and the changing seasons, picture of week theme. Then she said she didn't know how to send to an e-mail. She said if she had a phone # she could send it. Whatever you think is all good.

Pics sent via text (phone) usually don't fare too well on the receiving end, but let's try it. If it's crappy, Maybe I can get your wife on the phone and explain to her how to email it - If it's an iphone. Try texting it first and I'll let you know how she did.

Dang, just saw the response, I's waiting for something to tell me I had one, but had to look it up. Wife sending 2 either is fine, maybe one will work out. Hate to say it but wife kind'f like me has a hard time understanding this kind of stuff. Thanks, we'll see what happens.
Hey Earl
Are you okay ? I know that hurricane wasn't far from you .......

Thanks for the offer. I'm not sure how we could parts to me.I'm in Minnesota. I do have a friend who lives in Tucson, but it would be hard to talk him into a road trip. I'll keep the offer in mind as this build moves slowly forward.

It's not too difficult to ship there, maybe $70 or so. I'd ask 100 for the parts themselves. Compared to the ebay stuff it's way better condition and pricing.
I understand if you want to hold off.

Thanks for the reply,
Roger
Starting a long delayed rebuild of my Dad's 1983 GS1100G. Looks a little sad right now all torn down.

Learned a lot on the GSR site but have a question on upgrading the OEM regulator/rectifier.

Electrosport says their ESR130 (for this bike) deals with all 3 phases and shouldn't put destructive heat back into the stator (per the Stator Papers on this site).

Other reading implies that a MOSFET based R/R handles charging with less heat due to better switching efficiency. The Shindengen SH-775 and the Compufire R/R CF55402 are referenced on GSR.

Searching also turned up the Carmo CARR131W that states it has MOSFET.
https://www.carmo-electronics.com/webshop/voltage-regulator-rectifier/carr131-rs21-mosfet
It also has the same 5 spades out the bottom of the R/R like the one on my bike so it would appear to be easiest to adapt.

So my question is whether MOSFET reduces heat in just the R/R or does it help keep the stator cool also. Or does it do both by handling all 3 phases from the generator?

If anyone has any experience or wisdom on the Carmo R/R or the best choice out of all these - Thanks for any feedback. If the only thing trustworthy is around $300, then so be it.
Hey buddy,

Stay safe down there!

I hope Milton doesn't affect you too much.....at least it appears as if it's going to hit South of you.

Thanks a lot, turned out pretty dang good. Do see, as you mentioned the pictures thru text aren't as vivid as on her phone. Really appreciate what you do for me and all the other folks here at GSR needing help.

Rich, my wife thinks she sent you a picture for this wks. pic of the week, The "END" of the road, in an email. Wondering if you got it. should be from deloresphillips34@gmail.com or dcp240sx@hotmail.com. No clue why she has 2.
I haven't got to the 1100L yet Fried. I have been focusing on a couple GS450s an L and a T to get on the road to sell.

Thanks

I see, well, if you work on it, let me know. I'd be very curious to hear about it.

I'm going to try to start working on mine pretty soon. Need to go grab it first.
I'm looking to upgrade my 82 suzuki gs650e to electronic ignition. I want to get the best performance and reliability as possible. Any opinions on setup are wanted please and thank you
Hello All,

New here to the forum just got my first bike 82’ gs450t and I absolutely love it. A couple weeks ago it died when trying to start and after testing my stator (resistance and ground continuity) it signaled I needed a replacement. So I got a new Rick’s stator and a SH775 R/R as suggested on the forum. However, after replacing both I’m noticing a burning wire/rubber smell when my bike is running. Also the voltage is slightly above 12.5v when running at 2-5 rpm, so it’s not recharging that well. Really struggling to figure out what is going on, just want to get out and ride!!! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

John
Hi All, Just bought an 83 GS1100ES which is an Iowa bike imported into the UK in 2019 and been stored ever since. Just going to do a light recommission on it then see how it goes. look forward to getting some useful info from the forum.
