A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

what did you wrench on today??

...changing lines (on) both bikes. $700CDN...

Yikes! I upbraided (get it?) to stainless steel lines on my 11E about a decade ago and I recall it was less than $200. Of course I paid with Amerikon greenbacks, but still...YIKES! :worked_till_5am:

Finally got brake lines for the 750 and 1100 so I did the always enjoyable job of draining, changing lines and bleeding both bikes. $700CDN for all the lines but I'm glad to only have to flush the lines yearly for a few years now. Brake saga went on all spring waiting for parts but now I can just ride them so I'm happy about that. It all started when Neither brake light switch was working on the 1100 but really turned out for the best as I know both bikes brake systems are completely renewed now.

Raymond Chan at Apex in Toronto is where I've gotten several bike's ss lines....around $165 a bike for all the lines. Good deal and quality.

Well gtem, after see'in your pictures I got to agree, I'd thought nothing could look worse than my green "99" B12, but now agree your black is worse... But they're sure fun to ride.

I decided to wash off the brake dust and road grime from my '83 GS1100E. Interrupted by a thunderstorm. A bit rare for Southern California in June. Oh well, got it fairly clean. There's hardly ever anything to do to the bike otherwise.

Well, wasn't planning on wrenching quite yet, but I ordered a cushion for my side stand with some other parts to fix some oil leaks (fork seals, tach gear, cam chain tensioner) and thought I would just throw this on the bike...

That's not gonna fit!! Never noticed the "tang" on the side stand had been broken off and a bolt was welded in it's place until now.

Years ago I snapped mine off and lost it, I welded on an old pushrod from a truck engine. It looked ok as it had a small ball end similar to original.

synchronizing carbs on oil cooler??? I can't find it, that chapter of my repair manual must be missing

New to me 1982 GS1100G. Got it started with a fresh battery and barely ran on choke. Time to clean the carbs...

3 out of the 4 slides are stuck, but overall not very bad in the bowls.

Heat works well to break down the varnish sticking the slides

I am in the process of replacing the seat cover. Second time in 12 years. The Pit Replica covers seem to crack after that long. And I really don't enjoy messing with all the prongs.

Decided to put the case guards back on, after learning the hard way.
I had a low side crash and damaged the left side case in 2023.
Tried soldering a patch but it leaked, then I added another sealer to the inside and that worked, but the case was ugly.
So lucky to find a clean case on ebay this summer.

Whatever works. I Remember back in the 80's I installed a set of those guards on my GS1100E, slow speed drop ruined the guard but saved the cover. Found replacing the guard, had to buy the set, cost more than the cover it saved.

I wish I had a seat like that, really tight.

Finally got the paint complete on the 1100E. I painted the tank and front fender about a year ago and just now got it back together after painting the rear cowl and side covers.

That rear rack is a PITA to install. You need 4 hands, tiny little fingers and a blessing from the pope to get it all lined up! Anyone that has installed one knows!
