    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

18" wheel for shaft drive?

I have been wondering if there is a larger wheel than the usual 17" wheel that Suzuki makes for is shaft driven bikes. So far all I have found is the M109! At 8.5" wide, and a new swingarm its not the kind of swap I was thinking of. Is there another bike that uses a 18" rear with the shaft drive?

Mind you if I ever do a turbo hopup, maybe a wide tire like that would be cool ;-p

Why do you want an 18" wheel? All the GS shaft drive bikes (other than maybe the 450) use either a 16" or 17" rear wheel.
 
I want to reduce the rpm when at highway speeds. I have an 17" rim on mine, and I was thinking that a larger rim/tire combo would help to reduce the rpm to a slightly more economical rpm, as well at the same time increase top end speed (really thats a secondary consideration).
 
The '83+ 1100's use a taller gear ratio in the rear end which will drop your rpm's a little. I put one of those into my 850 - easy swap.

I had considered a final drive swap, not sure if it would drop the rpm as much as 18" wheel with 130 or 140 tire on it.

The forum software gives you an error message unless the response is at least 10 characters. My response "It would" was too short and generated an error.

My 850 sounds good at 5000 rpm but I would like a reduction as well.
I picked up a tired GS1000G for better high speed cruising.
More cc's = more fun. I am hoping to have it ready for spring. Too cold in my garage to put in many hours.

How much reduction in rpm did you realize?

I'll pull out the calculator to figure the difference on my 850 with a 17" rear tire.

3 or 4 hundred rpm reduction takes the edge off the engine noise on a long ride.
