Hi!

I am looking for a fuel tank to fit my 1979 GS1000E and I see that the 1980-1981 GS1100E fuel tank is a bolt on for the GS1000E. Does the fuel tank off of a GS1100G(the shaft drive model) have any differences from the chain drive model tank?

Thank you!

you already got the best answer you will probably get ...

The '80-'81 750E/1100E tanks bolt on. One of the few such swaps in the GS family. May older chain drive 1000's are running around with one of these tanks, because the real chain drive 1000 tanks are so difficult to find.

Note that there is a clash between the older VM carbs & the petcock when running the 1100E tank... you have to change out the petcock and/or prop the bottom of the tank up a bit from memory.
I ran one on mine for a while when I took it to Baja as I was going down some sandy tracks to get to places & didn't want to risk a tipover with the unobtainable 1000 tank!

:)

I can't be sure salty, but I'm thinking the earlier tanks petcock, more forward, will hit the tops of a CV carb, if used on a bike or eng. with CV carbs. I'd think the later tanks, with petcock moved back a little will work with either type carbs

Hey nut, very very nice custom GS1000, nobody, except a Suzuki nut, would know it's not OEM. Is that an "L" model exhaust or aft. mkt.? I wouldn't have thought an "L" exhaust would have fit that good... Again congrats, I really like it... My opinion, would be a great candidate for Bike Of The Month.

Hi, Phillips. The exhaust is standard front pipes and Sito aftermarket silencers. It's a bike I rebuilt and sold on a few years ago.
