A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi, I'm new to these forums, or rather forums in general, but I figure I should give it a shot. I have an '80 GS550L motor on an E frame, same year, and I bought the beauty for 400 with 11k miles on it. She was ignored and garaged for years and I found it one day on CL and fell in love with it. A buddy of mine and I fixed some issues it came with like high idle and frozen rear caliper. However, about 2 months ago I took it on a group ride and the chain broke and got put back together with a spare master link that I had so I could get home but when I got back I tried to ride it somewhere one day and it slinked off the sprocket, bent my push rod, knocked my front sprocket loose and took out an oil seal. So we decided it's time to rebuild. I've got the oil seal that broke, plus a complete gasket set, new clutch plates and springs, and a few random other things I don't know what they're called but I know they're needed. We already took the motor out and took off the top end and I saw I need to clean the carbon buildup off the piston heads and I need to get new piston rings and possibly a cam chain? I'm not sure what all I need to get new for it if I'm splitting the case and I'm new to rebuilding engines but I have a clymer manual to follow and I felt I needed to have other helpful folks, like you guys, to answer in and help me get this beast running like new and/or better than new. If you follow this video link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fupYRRIM26o&t=29s you'll hear how it ran before we took her apart. Whomever had my bike before me thought it'd be a good idea to cut the exhaust pipes like 2 or 3 inches from where the collector connects the 2 to 1, so I didn't have those megaphones, I had warm feet. If anyone can help me out and tell me what I need to look for or how to go about fixing it or any helpful information at all about these motors, I'd very much appreciate it! I look forward to chatting with you all!
