If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

1983 GS 1100 E goes for

Today is the final day of the auction for the 1980 GS750e on Bring a Trailer. The current bid is $1,800. I might have to bid on this...

I think that Cooley was stuck at $10500 a few hours before closing at $26500
It will be interesting to see what a gs750 goes for

$4,200 that seems to be about right I'd say... Good deal on both sides. 👍

$6600 seems pretty reasonable too me

Me too. Its the best one in my opinion. Welded crank and 19" front wheel. I had one. Think I paid half that or so for a pretty darned nice one, delivered. My nephew owns it now. That was over a decade ago.

A lot of rules we utilized for drag racing to make it appear that Kawasakis had a chance of running with a GS1100/GS1150.

I just hope these Mecum, bring a trailer, & Barrett Jackson can be looked at as real world prices. They just seem much higher than anyone could expect to sell these bikes for. A plain bearing crankshaft 750 that nobody was impressed with when they were new for $4,200...Hope I'm wrong, hope they are real world prices.

I think that you have to keep in mind that almost all of the bikes listed in those places are not your usual condition you see on craigslist and the like. These are premium bikes at premium prices.

No doubt very nice bikes. Way nicer than I see but an "83" GS1100 with 18K mi. & some repainted parts for $6,600, For me just don't seem real. Let me add, when watching Mecum or Barrett Jackson on TV, I very rarely see anything that seems realistic...to me.

Most of us are riding "runners", not "lookers".

Original cosmetic condition is getting more and more rare, and makes a huge, huge difference in value.

Originality is murkier. For example, that red 1100E had original shocks and brake lines, which I don't think anyone in their right mind would keep if they want to actually ride the bike. Fortunately, these are relatively trivial to replace, and I suppose you could carefully place the original bits on a shelf in case some weirdo wanted them.

As to why Kawasakis have commanded a premium for so long, I can only guess. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, other than Kawasaki was the first to develop a reputation for performance starting with the 2-cycle models, and of course the Z1 bombshell.

Can you imagine the time and money you would have to put into one of our "runners" to get them to the shape of some of the bikes that are sold at these auctions?? I put about $2,000 and about 6 months, into a $500 1978 GS1000, and don't think I'll ever do that again! Even though I am pleased with the end result!

Well,................ if a find a really nice skunk...............

Only $2,000? My painted like an '83 '82 11E was $1500 in very good running order. If you don't count tires. And chain. And fork seals. I must have put $5,000 into it over the years, but that's because I paid en expert to do the work. And I prefer the look (and sound) of pods and pipe to stock.
