A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

530 vs 630

They do make it - we sell it... RK 630 XW-Ring Chain. Just not many places stock it.
RK XW-Ring Chain
We are one of the few places that carry it.

I bought one last year for <$80 delivered.

Someone posted a link here in the forum.

I hope everyone continues to do the 530 conversion, so the next time I need an "outdated" 630 chain it'll be even cheaper! ;) HA!

I second that. I like the big, muscular look of the 630. Also, it's correct for my bike (1100EZ). Also, it's already on there. No conversion necessary.

Meh, you can't see it while you're riding anyway.

Also, it's correct for my bike (1100EZ).

Are you contiuing with the Mag Mopus tires and the 1978 brake pads too? How about the original fork springs?

Buy the good stuff for your motorcycle, it's worth it.

This line I can agree with.

I'm not against the conversion to 530. In fact, after reading someone (I think it was Chef) say it made a noticeable improvement in acceleration, I added it to my list.

It's just that there's so many items ahead of it: new tires, new (steel) brake lines, regulator/rectifier, to name just a few (costly) things.

PS The 1100EZ is an '82, not '78 model.

I hear you. I wouln't replace a 630 that still runs straight and true unless I had every single other thing perfect. I never get that far. But I certainly wouldn't ever buy a 630 either.

No, never. I lose interest and sell them, closely followed by buying a different one, or just buy another when I feel like it and then sell the old one I'll miss the least. Always will be buying another one. But I prefer the problem child, the closer to perfect they get, the less interest I have in them. Generally the plan is to buy it for a song, get it safe and reliable, ride it until I'm tired of it, then make it pretty and sell it to someone. Sometimes I just can't get motivated to finish up the last few finishing touches, I'd rather tear into something big on the non runner I bought last night.

I'm trying to slow down and keep them longer, only buy the ones I really want, but it's tough.

Thanks.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info in this post. Learned more reading this than any other thread. Was wondering why I would ever go to a shorter link or moth ball my nylon rear sprocket. All I needed to keep my 630 and nylon set up is a 3/8 front offset sprocket.

Will now be putting the 630 set up in a box and going with 530. Info provided here was much better than the just do it advice I've gotten in the past.
