    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

630 chain to a 530?

i have a 1983 gs 1100e i need to replace chain and sprockets is it wise to goto a 530 chain on a 1100 all the 530s i find say up to 1000cc if so will some one tell me if my calculations are correct
15 t front 630 = 18 t front 530
42 t rear 630 = 50 t rear 530
96 link 630 = 115 link 530 chain
i can get the 630 set up for $184.00
and the 530 set up for $150.00
front sprocket is $.30 differance 530 more
rear sprocket is $3.00 differance 530 less
chain is $29.00 differance 530 less
and i think i will need to space out my front sprocket not sure how much that is any help would be appreciated thank you
 
No brainer, go with the 530. Z1 is you best source for the parts and get the RK xso x ring chain. Lighter, better power transfer and will last longer. Don't worry about strength it's more than strong enough. Dan
 
I have done this to two different gs's and the only thing I had to watch out for was to make sure that you space out the front sprocket to what it needs. When you order your front sprocket you can ask for extra washers for it or you will have hard time finding ones that you can make work. The first one I did, I was lucky enough to have a local machine shop make one for me. But changing it over only takes a afternoon if you take your time cleaning things while their apart.
 
This is a popular conversion and spacers are commonly available, no need to go to a machine shop or what have you.

Z1 Enterprises as mentioned by Dan sells everything you need. I ordered sprockets and a spacer from them to convert my GS1000 to 530. Not sure if Z1's sprockets are the best though; the front sprocket is Emgo and the rear is a similar off brand (can't the remember the brand name off the top of my head). I've had good luck with JT sprockets in the past so it may be worthwhile to search them out.

For a chain I went with a KMC - $62 shipped. The tensile strength is as good as anything else I looked at, but they use O-rings instead of X-rings. KMC has an excellent reputation within the bicycling community; they have been around for a while and their products are often rebranded - they make chains for Shimano for example. A bit of a gamble I suppose but not a big one. kosman specialties makes a kit to do what your wanting with no spacers requires. also any busa or gsxr front gear will fit the gs output shaft. i run a 530 on my gs1000 which is really a bit over 1150 at this point and i have never had any problems at all and thats in a street/race environment. i run a 14 front and a 45 rear 530 and she scoots pretty good. kosman can if they dont stock any size offset you can think of. the most important thing to keep in mind is the quality of the chain you select. my best advise is dont shop price, shop quality. if your gonna upgrade take her all the way (shes worth it) heres a link to the kosman site http://www.kosman.net/ the link is for harley but the carry a full line of suzuki gs stuff also just ask them or search kosman on ebay also for what its worth, harleys run a 530 chain on most of the 1340 motors. they might not be as quick as the gs bikes but they have a huge amount of torque over a gs and thats where the stretch comes from in a chain. hope this helps, cliff

The Emgo sprockets are excellent. Emgo does not make anything, they buy and package sprockets under their name. The Emgo sprockets and Sprocket Specialists sprockets come out of the very same factory - using the very same tooling and hardening processes.
 
I ride a 750 and went to a 530. The Z1 guys walked me through the whole process of which sprockets, etc. The conversion has worked great!

I just converted my 1100E, and unless I messed something up the only spacer required was between the front sprocket and the nut.

Any dealership that has a Parts Unlimited catalog as all the parts, including the spacer - just look in the JT sprocket section. $140 for me for everything 17/46 114 link chain. Nearly $260 for 630.
