Apart from the fact that the spoke pattern is different & the 83 is tubeless compatible I have heard that the 83 wheels are lighter.

Does anyone have any idea a. if that's true & b. how much.

Dan :)

If there tubeless would save some weight with the tube being not there. Cant see much differance with the castings weight wise.

I like the idea of going tubeless & losing a bit of weight... not sure I like the 83 spoke pattern though.

Where's TomMLC when you need to see a Skunk with 83 wheels on...

Dan :)

Looking at the two based on the design, the 83 may have a little less alluminum density 6 mag vs 10. If they are indeed lighter I would think it would not be very significant. Just an observation.

Yeah, I can tell by looking. 11.3 oz. lighter for th front & 11.6 oz lighter on the rear. Who needs scales????

The 1150 rear is a good inch wider than the old style GS wheels. That's reason enough to change for some people.

Yep, exactly 1 inch wider on the 1150 17" rear, and it would be the same mag pattern, but width change 2.5" to 3.5".

The front on the 1150, 16" x 2.75" v. the 16" 2.15 on the 83'-85' 750-700.

We shall see what it takes to do the front swap. Thanks Ed. :)

The 1150 rear rim will be the next purchase.

I'm just looking at using the rear 750 wheel that I have & getting an 1100 front to match.

No real reason other than to go tubeless. I don't necessarily want the wider rim.

To fit an 1150 front to a GS1000 you'd need to machine the hubs or fit the 1150 front end. A 750 front end might work as well as that is spaced further apart than the 1000 too.

Dan :)

Oh i forgot about the 1150 rear wheel. In Aus they where 3.5x18 so might be a good way to make it a little better. You should be able to put any rear suzi wheel on any bike as the cush drive rubbers are all the same even up to a Hayabusa. This was my brothers bike with EFE engine, 750 Kat frame, EFE front end, spoke wheels, efe brakes and using spacers behind the discs to get them central.

So nobody has ever weighed one. My 17" 83 wheel has the tyre on it or I would weigh that to get the ball rolling.

Sorry Dan, I never thought to weigh them. Next time they're naked I can do so. Might take I while before I need new rubber though.

No probs Tom. Just out of interest really. The main thing for me will be the tubeless compatibility as I suspect it was for you.

Dan :)
