85 gs1150 rear rim on 83 gs750e

Hi, I have a 83 gs750e. I just bought a 85 gs1150 rear rim for my bike and put it on (had to swap out the bearings) everything bolted up but I noticed that the 1150 hub was actually about 1/8 inch narrower than the 750s hub. When I put the rim on there was a small gap that I just closed up by tightning up the axle bolt. everything seems to track straight but when I apply rear brake the bike pulls to the right. (actually its the rear that pulls to the right, you can feel it) I thought no big deal, I'll just put in a spacer to take up the room that I had taken up by tightening up the axle bolt. But now I have given it some thought and I dont know if it will be that easy because of the way the disk brake lines up. Has anyone done this and if so what do you do about the spacing??? Make sure the front and rear wheels are inline, chain is in line and adjust spacers to suit. You may need to adjust the brake caliper holder...

you can stack flat washers for spacers if necessary. Makes it a pain to fit the wheel but it works.

Thanks Salty, This really puzzles me because on the drive side everything is the same, the inner drive disk mounts up to the hub just like the 750s hub, the outer rim doesn't stick out any further than the 750s. did they put the extra inch all to the right side on the 1150?

The hub may well be offset to the rim... When you fit one to an 1100 all the additional spacers go on the right hand side too but it's only 5mm from memory

If it's the same as the 1100 swingarm you want 3mm one side of the brake caliper holder (wheel side I think) & 2mm the other side...

Yes, 5mm seems about right. I didn't measure 1/8" I just guessed and actually thought this was a little shy. So you think I should use two spacers, a 3mm and a 2mm in that order? another thing, if the drive side is the same on both wheels yet the 1150 is a inch wider then how will the front and rear still line up?

JWhelan put 1150 wheels on a 750es. There's a thread here on it somewhere. Vmass has the bike now. (If it hasn't sold yet).

Thanks dorkburger, I pm,ed him. hopefully he will get back with me. I've been looking at this tonight and there seems to be a couple ways I can do it. One thing I was wrong about is on further looking at it, on the drive side the 1150 rim DOES stick out further than the 750s rim. About a 1/2 inch so this makes perfect sence and would mean the 1150 is not offset like I thought. (I think, I'm confused)!!!
