A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Very nice! I like that model a lot (although I find all the 1100's a little long for me to get really comfortable).

Congrat's! You do know he'll be sorry as hell he let it go at some point? What made him decide to sell?

Poor Kevin had the bike break down on him on the first day of a long weekend ride earlier in the year. I helped him out and we were talking about why I bought my Honda ST as a replacement for my touring 1980 1000G which was so I had a touring bike I didn't have to worry too much about, just walk out and start it. A couple of months later he bought a Tenere and called me :D

It's nice to have a classic and something newer. I still have my '79 GS1000E since new and my 2007 ZX14 since new. Best of both worlds. Enjoy your bikes.:)

Funny to think that an ST1100 is already 20 years old now.

If you are looking to sell the 1000G, my 23 year old nephew fell in love with mine, and is looking for one.

Great looking 1100ES.

Well sad news. Was riding over the weekend and 600 kms from home she died on me. Bent a valve I suspect as the engines not seized but boy is there some metal sounds coming from the top end. Myself and a dozen other riders were up Island one a yearly ride Trevor puts on, even Kevin the previous owner was there. Had to laugh, the bike didn’t make the whole trip last year either ;) I’ll likely tear into it over the next couple of months. Maybe a big bore is in order???

Downshifted at 10k when you meant to upshift? BTDT.
1 down 4 up :)

It sounds more like a broken rocker arm maybe. Valves just don't bend, well unless they're struck by something. PISTON.

Well I was doing some 'spirited' riding when it happened, I'm a bit more curious now to see what actually did break. Ya I was pretty luck how it all worked out considering how far from home I was. I took the bike on a May trip with over 6000km and barely a hiccup, my lucky day that it happened close to home.

Long ago a local shop had an 84 550ES that lost a nut for valve adjustment. I got word somebow & offered up an adjustment nut from a spare head I had. Curious what the diagnosis will be.
What symptoms did the bike show before failure?

loud valve noise for a minute while riding and reduction of power then it just died. We tried to start it again but instantly had loud upper engine metal noise.

bad news alright. Carter Turks idea is plausible to me- I've seen what happens when one of these is bouncing around up there... Cam chain jumped on my 8-valve gsx400...and SOMETHING smashed a hole right through the cover too...a couple of bent valves

(...but I'm still not sure if they weren't already bent compression was low on one side before...plus, the nut was apparently an orphan from Previous Owner)
