A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • This forum is for placing reviews for parts, accessories, gear and service as it relates to your GS motorcycle. The key here is "GS Related". There is a bit of latitude here but we don't want to see a review on Maytag washers just because that's what you use to clean your riding jacket in.

Keep your review as factual as possible and please refrain from personal attacks. Posted articles will be reviewed by the Editors and may be removed at their discretion.

So let's make this a useful addition to the forum! A special pat on the back goes to Hap Call for coming up with this great idea.

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I sent some carbs to chuck for a rebuild
needless to say I'm very pleased with the results. not only did he rebuild the cards but he also resourced the parts. communication was exceptional. I will let some pictures speak for themselvesView attachment 19437

Thanks Rich. The one thing I should start doing is take before and after pics of the bowl areas and the oputer condition. Glad you happy with work.

I strive to go that extar mile and clean everything as meticulously as if they were going on my own bike.

My philosopht is this: "If it was me paying for the job, I would want someone to care about my stuff too." So thats what I strive for in anything I do for a customer.

Well done Chuck... Just out of curiosity, what does it cost to ship a set of carbs inside of the US ?

Average set of VMs thru the mUSPS is around 20 bucks..give or take a dollar or two. Weight and package dimensions are the factors they go by.

I always tell a potential customer to go the extra few dollars for a well padded set of carbs in a slioghtly bigger box. These carbs arent that rare, but then again not an on the shelf parts supply out there either. best to err on the side of caution.

Those were VM33s that Rich had done. I stripped and repainted the tops, new Robert Barr orings, new bowl gaskets, and I had to hunt down new jet holder washers. Total cost WITH parts was $174.00 Rich had sent a return UPS label with the carbs, so that was real nice that shipping was covered.

Hope to be of service to anyone here. Just send me a PM. I also do a heck of a nice job on polishing engine covers..HINT HINT!!

well good things deserve a bigger picture......

The one top had a huge ding in it and they were all void of the original paint ( just chipped patches here and there ). I redid them with VHT hight temp gloss black and baked them for 2 hrs at 250 degrees.

The baking makes it chemical RESISTANT and hardens the paint for better scratch resistance as well. I use high temp also because of all the engine heat thats getting pushed back around them from the jugs.

I use green dish scrubbies and go into the throats and scrub the bores and slide towers to get them as clean and nice as I can. This, I feel, ensures smooth movement of the slides and air moving into the intake and thru the carbs themselves. I am a freak when it comes to having CLEAN carbs...HA HA.

Actually Adrian, I have used ultra sonics before..really the only thing that they have over the dip is that they work faster. Thats my opinion of course and I certainly wasnt impressed with them enough to go WOW!! and have to get one.

what solutions did you use in it? the stuff you can get, or make up nowadays is really rather good...........:)

Whatever soultion the dealership had in it. Buddy works at a dealership and they have one. Like I said, it was fast at breaking the chunks and stuck parts loose but I still had to actually clean it the way I like clean to be.

For all the money to buy one and the BS of fiddling with this or that "solution" isnt worth my time of day. Berrymans has been working for the last 60 years or so..so if it aint broke..dont fix it.

so consider berrymans in a U/S cleaner then.......twice as quick, TWICE AS CLEAN. no effort, no cleaning after, just a rinse and a whizz over with a hair dryer.job done.
cleaner than factory :)
oh, and they are cheap as hell to buy nowadays, for a 2 carb size.....

Unfortunately us Brits don't have the option to use Berrymans. So I've bought an ultrasonic cleaner. The wife's jewellery looks great, but I haven't done any carbs yet.

Anyway..back to the subject of RICH'S thread since you have hijacked it and started an unnecessary arguement.

erm hijacked? you read wrong mister, i merely mentioned that U/S cleaners were good for cleaning carbs, the easy way.
you were the one that instantly bit, and your statement in post #8 was a blatant start TO the argument.(again)

I am going back and deleting my posts for the sake of being a gentleman and respecting Richs thread...please follow suit.

Seeing that as you said it I "instantly bit", you are openly admitting youre just nothing more than a troll.

get it right chuck, i posted a perfectly reasonable statement. you chose to bite whereas most people would have just agreed or disagreed with the statement.

deleting your own posts is a sure sign of "oops, i did it again. me bad".....

Your prices seem very reasonable. And the shipping costs aren't bad. { I have a US address I can use } I'll contact you when I do the Kat's and see if you're interested. She's running good now but I'm pretty sure they'll need doing over the winter.

Canada post is the way to go from Canada. I send them back USPS and there are no fees and such at your end as far as I kniow of.

UPS and FedEx impose fees and tarrifs if I remember correctly.

I need to post more pictures, I am having trouble with my home computer and it a pain from my phone. The point of this thread is to say that Chuck has done an EXPENTIONAL job, cleaned these carbs as though as they were his own. Don't turn it into some kind of ****ing match. If you need some carb service and you want it done right, send it to CHUCK!!!!!!!!

Like i said before Rich..wish I had taken pics of the deep brown colored jets and floats before hand. That would have been a good promo photo for sure.
